Sherman’s Maine Coast Book Shop, at 158 Main St. in Damariscotta, announces the following author events for the remainder of the month of August:
Live Music and Barbecue At Oxbow
On Friday, Aug. 12, Oxbow Brewing Company’s tasting room in Newcastle will be hosting a free concert featuring The Rocks, a rock band made up of local youth and one guitar-playing dad. In addition to the guitars — bass and electric — band members also sing and play the saxophone, percussion, and keyboard.
At the Lincoln
One week from tonight, at 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 11, we will hold the theater’s annual meeting. We hope you’ll join us to celebrate the past year at Lincoln Theater and get a look at the year ahead. Come also join us for the grand re-opening of the old entrance to the theater – the much-beloved staircase! We are excited to be able to use the old entrance for special events – and as an opportunity to bring back many great memories.
This Week at The Harbor Theatre
The last showing of “Star Trek Beyond” will be at 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 4, followed on Friday, Aug, 5 by “The Secret Life of Pets” this week at The Harbor Theatre.

Along with two delightful films this week, Lincoln Theater has its last special broadcast of July — a star-studded celebration of William Shakespeare featuring some of the world’s greatest actors each giving a separate take on how to say “To be or not to be.” Audience members will find themselves laughing throughout this truly once-in-a-lifetime event, captured live on the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death.

At the Lincoln
With Theresa May taking over as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, now is the ideal time to imagine what her meetings with the Queen must be like. There is no better way to picture them than by watching Helen Mirren portray Elizabeth II through various stages in her life and various prime ministers in this week’s encore screening of “The Audience.” Then beat the summer heat by enjoying some cool music with Yo-Yo Ma, in “The Music of Strangers,” in the cool air conditioning of Lincoln Theater.
This Week at The Harbor Theatre
A blue tang fish stars in this summer’s biggest blockbuster, “Finding Dory,” continuing this week at The Harbor Theatre.
At the Lincoln
This week we have our final conversation for 2016 in our Talking Art in Maine series. If you’ve never had a chance to join us for one of these talks, don’t miss it. They are a pleasure. And, in this season of political drama, we open a political documentary that includes a number of players in the current political landscape and won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance. It is also already being spoken of as a top contender for this year’s Oscar.
DRA’s Midcoast Music Fest
The Damariscotta River Association will present its annual Midcoast Music Fest, a summer concert series taking place at 6:30 p.m. on both Thursday, July 14 and Saturday, July 16. This year’s festival lineup features Primo Cubano, the Jason Spooner Band, the Oyster Creek Fiddlers, and more. The public is invited to enjoy music, food (including oysters), and beer in the Darrows Barn at DRA’s Round Top Farm, 3 Round Top Lane, Damariscotta. The Midcoast Music Fest supports the conservation and education work of the DRA.
At the Lincoln
Along with a terrific period drama this week, we once again are showing the broadcast of the tennis finals, live from Wimbledon, on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Strawberries and cream, anyone?
