Residents of Schooner Cove in Damariscotta and local community members will soon have an opportunity to learn more about a fascinating chapter of local Damariscotta history. Historical archaeologist Tim Dinsmore will present a discussion about recent developments in his ongoing dig in nearby Newcastle at 2 p.m., Monday, Dec. 5 in the library of Schooner Cove, 35 Schooner St., Damariscotta. The event is free.

The Newcastle Historical Society will meet at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 7 in the Newcastle town office’s selectmen’s room to share holiday desserts. All are welcome to join the Newcastle Historical Society for the December holiday treat meeting. Members are encouraged to bring a guest or two.

As families push back from the Thanksgiving table this month, others in the Midcoast will begin designing and baking their entries for Boothbay Harbor’s magical Gingerbread Spectacular. This December marks the 10th annual Gingerbread Spectacular at the historic Opera House at Boothbay Harbor, and from early scouting reports, it sounds like it may be the best one yet.
