We have three very special opportunities at the theater this week. The first is to see two great actors perform as it happens – Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart in “No Man’s Land,” broadcast live from the London stage.

One can give a unique Christmas gift and support the Waldoboro Public Library at the same time. Craftsman Fred Bischoff has created beautiful handmade items for the holidays to benefit the Waldoboro Public Library, located at 958 Main St., Waldoboro. For sale are foldable candle holders for $20, shut-the-box games for $10, and Advent calendar chalets for $35.

The current run of J. K. Rowling’s new Harry Potter spin-off, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” concludes on Thursday night, Dec. 8, and will be followed by Amy Adams in “Arrival” and a performance of “The Nutcracker.”

Residents of Schooner Cove in Damariscotta and local community members will soon have an opportunity to learn more about a fascinating chapter of local Damariscotta history. Historical archaeologist Tim Dinsmore will present a discussion about recent developments in his ongoing dig in nearby Newcastle at 2 p.m., Monday, Dec. 5 in the library of Schooner Cove, 35 Schooner St., Damariscotta. The event is free.

J. K. Rowling’s new Harry Potter spin-off, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” continues at The Harbor Theatre, plus a free screening, with Q&A, of “A Will for the Woods” will play on Tuesday, Dec. 6.

Happenings
Along with some terrific movies, our free family-film series continues this week along with the holiday favorite “Peter Pan” and a special version from The Met of “The Magic Flute,” a terrific way to introduce and enjoy the opera for children of all ages.

The Newcastle Historical Society will meet at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 7 in the Newcastle town office’s selectmen’s room to share holiday desserts. All are welcome to join the Newcastle Historical Society for the December holiday treat meeting. Members are encouraged to bring a guest or two.

Beacon Chapter #202 of the Order of the Eastern Star is gearing up for its annual Christmas bazaar and wreath sale, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 26 at the Alna Anchor Masonic Lodge at 529 Main St., Damariscotta.

As families push back from the Thanksgiving table this month, others in the Midcoast will begin designing and baking their entries for Boothbay Harbor’s magical Gingerbread Spectacular. This December marks the 10th annual Gingerbread Spectacular at the historic Opera House at Boothbay Harbor, and from early scouting reports, it sounds like it may be the best one yet.

The Damariscotta River Association is offering the opportunity for kids to roam outdoors, explore nature, and play games at its winter vacation camps during teacher workshop days and February vacation this coming winter and spring.

Oxbow Brewing Company, the farmhouse brewery located in Newcastle, will kick off the holiday season by offering special bottle pours at its Newcastle tasting room on Saturday, Nov. 26. Customers will be able to sample rare bottles no longer available for sale such as Momoko, Goods from the Woods, Funkhaus, and vintage Crossfade.
