The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. declared in his Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech, “I have the audacity to believe that peoples everywhere can have three meals a day for their bodies.”

I want to thank Rep. Jonathan McKane for continuing to give us the in-depth truth about many aspects of Maine state government and specifically the expensive Dirigo Health program.

I continue to grow weary of the mainstream media lack of coverage of Barack Obama’s role in the current banking crisis.

Many despicable false accusations have been circulating about Cindy McCain (and her husband), and I fear that there will come a day when no decent person will run for office in this country.

This past week, Republican Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska made a campaign stop in Bangor. As it happened I missed the local news that evening but hoped to catch some coverage on the “207” program of WSCH, Channel 6.

Representative Wendy Pieh’s opponent, Henry Simmons, may not have her experience in Augusta, but as long as I’ve known him, his word has been good, and he’ll never be a “yes-man” to Governor Baldacci.

After reading the article on the front page of the Oct. 23 copy of The Lincoln County News regarding Damariscotta politics, I felt obligated to express my opinion.

Peter Rines has given Lincoln County eight years of service as a representative in Augusta and he deserves to be our State Senator.

The Jefferson School Committee greatly appreciates the citizens who turned out on Sept. 30 for the new school site plan proposal and straw poll. The overwhelming unanimous 92 favorable votes was an incredible result.
