I am of the school of thought that believes if you don’t like something, don’t do it. It is a simple philosophy and easily followed. This leads me to Question 1, the bear referendum.
Corporate Compassion
Two weeks ago I complained in this paper of the ersatz lighthouse behind Damariscotta’s Salt Bay CafĂ© that bathed my bedroom with the light of 1000 candles. I didn’t expect anything to come of this, but my concern, supported by the proprietress of the neighboring yarn shop, reached all the way to the eyrie of CMP corporate headquarters.
We Have To Have a Change
Based solely on the Maine economy, we have to have a change in the governorship of the great state of Maine. The present head of state has been in office long enough to improve the economic conditions in Maine, but he has demonstrated no viable, comprehensive and effective growth strategy.
Not True Sportsmanship
I’ve been a big-game hunter for over 40 years, with trophies to prove it, and I’ve guided many successful hunts: no animals were ever taken by baiting or disabling leg-traps.
Where Is The Comparable Effort?
U.S., state, and municipal health authorities are working overtime and spending millions of dollars to stem the spread of Ebola, which has killed just one person here.
Don’t Be Cowards
It is a sad state of affairs when a person[s] drive onto private property in the middle of the night to deface a political sign with an unprintable word on one side and ‘stupid’ on the other, and steal almost all of the remaining signs. The defaced sign was apparently too large steal.
TEAM ORANGE
All through this week and winding up on Monday, pumpkin enthusiasts far and wide will descend on the Twin Villages for all things pumpkin.
Wiscasset Has a Problem
Wiscasset has a problem. The voters decided we were better off leaving the RSU than staying in. This left Wiscasset supporting a three school system with a dwindling student population. In order to support the school system, Wiscasset paid through the nose last year because there was not sufficient time to study our best options to control costs: quite understandable.
Might Someone Suggest
Even though I have lived in Manhattan for over a half a century, I still observe the “rule of the road” that I learned growing up in rural upstate New York some 70-odd years ago: “If you are walking on the road, walk to the left, facing the on-coming traffic.”
OPENING DAY
In the classic setting, the first day of school is accompanied by the peal of the school bells, calling delighted children back to their studies.
Examine All Possibilities
As a retired educator whose career was spent in public education, I understand the necessity for some level of fluidity in a school system budget. Needs arise and change as the year progresses, so the school committee, acting in concert with administration, is there to review, to manage and to approve school budget expenditures.
WHY GO THERE?
In early 2011, after the RSU 12 Board of Directors voted to “immediately” and “permanently” remove the term “Redskin” from any and all schools within the district, we said in this space it was the right decision, badly made.
House-Warming Get-Together
In January, 2013 our family lost our home on Bayview Road in Nobleboro to a fire. We have been displaced and struggling to get back on our feet for a year and a half now. We finally managed to find and purchase a home back in Nobleboro where we want to live.
Where the Dream Begins
Imagine the excitement of earning the title of Little League World Series Champions. We recently returned to Maine from a trip to Williamsport, Penn. to see who would take home the top prize in youth baseball. All the excitement brought back wonderful memories of my son’s own recent Lincoln Little League Championship game where his team, The Wheels, finished an undefeated perfect season and won it all.
