In the past two weeks, Lincoln Theater has presented three incredibly magnificent ballet productions. The first two were different versions of the ballet “Swan Lake.” In the first we were treated to the marvelous choreographer and dancer Rudolph Nureyev as he partnered the ever-exquisite Margot Fonteyn: a partnership made in heaven! Having seen them perform many times, I was still awestruck.
Commentary – A glimpse of Boston on the mend
When my in-laws gave Red Sox tickets to my wife and me at Christmas, we were thankful for and appreciative of their gift. At the time, we did not realize what opportunity the tickets, dated April 20, would represent.
THE STORY DOES NOT END
Like many Americans, we were riveted by the events in Boston last week. The bombing, the investigation, the gunfight, the lockdown, the manhunt, the arrest, the celebration; it was white knuckle stuff.
EVERY DAY IS A GOOD DAY TO THANK A VETERAN
This past weekend, when he was presented with a handmade quilt as a thank you for his service to the country 70-some years ago, Jefferson resident Shirley Sutherburg made the comment that nobody seemingly cared all that much when he returned home.
SPRING CLEANING
Even as we put this paper to bed, the snowplows, snow-shovelers and snow-blowers are still out there, cleaning up the last vestiges of what we hope to be the last major snow storm of 2013.
CONSIDER THE MERITS
Chad Andrews did not ask to be Damariscotta’s police chief. He did not, in fact, expect or plan to be a police chief in Damariscotta or elsewhere.
You Are In A Peace Loving And Gun Owning State
Women and guns go together in Maine for good reasons. It’s a love affair that has lasted for generations of Maine women. Smart ladies are reliable and necessary around the home. We help keep things safe and orderly in times of trouble. Come on, is a home really a home without a good woman and at least one trusty gun? I think not.
WHY GO THERE?
For a political press release, the statement released by the Maine House Democrats March 5 regarding the party line rejection of former legislator Jon McKane’s nomination to the Dirigo Health Board of Trustees feels very personal.
Historic Property Deserves Time And Consideration
Please don’t tear down Connie Curley’s old house! The diminutive 1730s era cape nestled in the historic village of Damariscotta Mills is a rare example of the type of dwelling the early colonists of our area built and lived in. One of, if not the oldest building in Lincoln County, this historic property deserves the time and consideration to make every effort to preserve it.
What price are we willing to pay?
The Lincoln County News has been reporting on the conflict between Clary Lake and its association and the owners of the dam, Pleasant Pond Mill LLC and Aquafortis Assoc. LLC, pertaining to the water level in Clary Lake.
Property Owner Rights
Over the past few weeks having read the various articles and letters written about fireworks usage, I wish to add the following perspective.
STAY TUNED FOR PAIN
Newcastle, Damariscotta and Bremen, the three towns that make up the Great Salt Bay Community School District have the pleasure of considering an 11.86 percent increase in their proposed budget this year.
A Good Library Is The Heart Of A Town
When the money pool shrinks, responsible people tighten belts, strip away frills, live a little closer to the bone-especially in New England towns, where a history of hard lives eked out on wind- and sea-pummeled granite has bred respect for reality.
Nobleboro and Springtime
Nobleboro was founded by people of strength, grit, and a no-nonsense view of life.
