The Lincoln County College Connection provides one-on-one counseling, mentoring, and academic support to help one successfully move on to college and earn a degree and/or decide on a career that is the perfect fit.
LA to Host Eighth Grade Info Night Jan. 23
On Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 6:30 p.m., Lincoln Academy in Newcastle will host Eighth Grade Info Night to assist families of incoming LA freshman and transfer students with the registration and course selection process. Guidance counselors will provide introductory information and an opportunity to answer individual questions about registering for classes at Lincoln Academy.

As part of the Maine Department of Education’s ongoing efforts to highlight Maine’s outstanding teachers, nominations are now open for the 2019 County Teachers of the Year and 2020 Teacher of the Year.
Foundation Offers Scholarships for Maine Students
The Maine Community Foundation offers more than 600 scholarships that support students pursuing studies in music, journalism, teaching, horticulture, technology, the arts, and many other fields. The scholarships are available for students who attend secondary, post-secondary, and graduate schools, as well as nontraditional programs.
GSB Students Investigate
Last year, I had the opportunity to visit Kelly Girard’s eighth-grade language arts classes at Great Salt Bay Community School in Damariscotta during the students’ investigative journalism unit. The presentations were fun (at least for me), The Lincoln County News later published some of the students’ work, and the whole experience was truly one of the highlights of my year.

GSB Second-Graders go to FARMS Kitchen
On Thursday, Oct. 25, Mary Hanna’s second grade class from Great Salt Bay Community School in Damariscotta went to the FARMS Kitchen at the Central Lincoln County YMCA. They were the third class to visit and learn about Native American food from Ms. Kleinkopf and Mrs. Miller. They used ingredients that Native Americans in this area might have used, like cornmeal, rice, blueberries, and pumpkin.
Lincoln Academy to Host 8th Grade Family Night Nov. 7
Families interested in Lincoln Academy in Newcastle for its rising ninth-graders or transfer students are invited to attend an information session called 8th Grade Family Night at the school on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 6:30 p.m. The event will begin in the LA Alumni Dining Commons. Parking is available in the student parking lot across from the LA gym.
NobleBOOro Spooktacular to Move Indoors
The location of the second annual NobleBOOro Spooktacular written about in the article “Nobleboro Central PTO to host Halloween party,” on page 4A, will take place indoors at Nobleboro Central School, located at 194 Center St. in Nobleboro, due to anticipated inclement weather. The date and time of the event is still Saturday, Oct. 27 from 5-8 p.m.
