Bayley Pendleton scored the game winning goal by way of a penalty stroke with 44 seconds left in double overtime, to give a jubilant Lincoln Academy field hockey team their first varsity win since 2006. The dramatic 2-1 victory came in the team’s KVAC opener against the Morse Shipbuilders.

Wiscasset girls soccer team opened their Mt. Valley Conference season with a 5-0 shutout win at Boothbay on Sept. 5. The Lady Wolverines outshot the Seahawks 22-4, including unleashing 18 first half shots.

Bailey Plourde won her fourth straight Mid-Coast Junior Golf Championship on August 10 at Rockland Golf Club. Her first competitive tournament play was at this championship five years ago.

Leeman Runs His Age for a Good Cause
Paul Leeman, of Round Pond, is celebrating his birthday in a big way for the second year in a row. In 2013, he ran 38 miles and raised $2,500 in a benefit run for two worthy causes. This year on his 39th birthday, Leeman plans on running 39 miles, and hopes to raise $5,000. So far he has raised $1,000.

45th Dixie Bull Regatta Concludes Successfully
Neither Mother Nature nor the spirit of the dread pirate Dixey Bull could spoil the 45th running of the Dixie Bull Regatta. Ten boats completed the 8-mile course around John’s Bay Aug. 24. The race is hosted by the Beaver Island Yacht Club.
Huges and Hempstead Win Westport Island 10K
Chase Huges, 19, of Westport Island, won the 10th annual Westport Island Shore Run 10K on Sunday in a time of 40:53. Megan Hempstead was the first female finisher and placed eighth overall in 51:11.

Thirty-four-year-old Adam Daigneault won the third annual Medomak Valley Triathlon on Saturday in Union. Kelly Robbins was the first female finisher.

Abello and Stepnowski Win Jefferson 5K
Tom Abello, 40, of Edgecomb, won the Jefferson 5K, sponsored by Troop 216 Boy Scouts. Abello beat out Will Janakis by 33 seconds. Roxanne Stepnowski, 41, of Glastonbury, Conn., was the first female finisher and took third overall.
Plourde and Oliver Tie for First in Mixed Championship
On Aug. 17, Bailey Plourde, the 2014 Class B Schoolgirl co-champion, and Malcolm Oliver, the 2011 State B Schoolboy champion, teamed up at the Maine State Golf Associations Mixed Championship tournament at Willowdale Golf Course in Scarborough.
Benner Fills a Niche Making Model Boat Hulls
Brent Benner, of Walpole, builds fiberglass hulls for radio-controlled model boats at Walpole Model Boatworks in his grandfather Chester Rice’s garage. When the Olde Bristol Days Committee was looking for volunteers, Benner stepped forward and started and sponsored the first annual Jerry Farrin Model Lobster Boat Races at Olde Bristol Days.
