Boothbay girls basketball team defeated Wiscasset 48-34 on Jan. 10 in the Lady Seahawk nest. Boothbay jumped out to a 15-5 first quarter lead then coasted, with players splitting playing time evenly. The Seahawks were led by Chloe Arsenault with 11 points, Madison Faulkingham 7, and Haley Abbott, Glory Blethen, Mara Gentry and Kylie Brown 6 each. Wiscasset was led by Kateleen Trask with 17 and Bri Colson-Orr 8.
Gould Named KVAC XC Coach of the Year Girls cross country
Medomak Valley girl’s cross country coach George Gould was named the KVAC Girl’s Class B Cross-Country Coach of the Year, after his team won the KVAC Class B Championship on October 19.

The movement to separate Maine from Massachusetts began in 1785 and the District of Maine held popular separation votes five times: in 1792, 1797, 1807, and twice in 1816 before finally approving separation from Massachusetts in 1819. Significant opposition to separation existed along the coast, where the Federalist Party was dominant. In the state’s interior, where the Republicans held more power, there tended to be stronger support for separation.

Wake-Up Call
The exhaustion and closure of the Sable Island natural gas fields in Nova Scotia should be a wake-up call to Mainers about the future of cheap energy. It only took 20 years to snuff out the dream of converting Maine’s electrical power grid and home heating to clean-burning natural gas. Now, to continue that conversion, Mainers face snags in piping fracked gas from Texas or Pennsylvania, which may soon meet a similar fate.

Medomak cheerleaders third at States Hermon wins Class B and Lisboon Class C
