American guitarist Aaron Larget-Caplan returns to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Newcastle for a solo concert on Thursday, August 3 at 7:00 PM. The concert will feature music from his recordings:
“God’s Time – Music of J.S. Bach on Guitar,” Aaron’s own compositions from “honey cadence,” classical and flamenco solos from his most recent release “Spanish Candy,” and a few surprises. Have you ever heard a viola da gamba? Are you curious about what sets it apart from other more commonly used stringed instruments? Join us as the first-ever American laureate of the 7th International Bach-Abel Competition, Arnie Tanimoto leads an educational lecture about the instrument and a demonstration performance!
Arnie Tanimoto was the first-ever viola da gamba major at the Juilliard School, where he soloed on both viola da gamba and baroque cello. In 2017 he was awarded with a Frank Huntington Beebe Fund Fellowship and subsequently finished his studies at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel, Switzerland. His principal teachers include Paolo Pandolfo, Sarah Cunningham, and Christel Thielmann. As a teacher, Mr. Tanimoto serves on faculty at the Mountainside Baroque Summer Academy, as well as maintaining a private studio in New York City. He holds additional degrees from Oberlin Conservatory and the Eastman School of Music.

Elevate your trail building and maintenance skills during this free two-part workshop designed to teach basics in trail erosion control and hone chainsaw skills.
Designed as a training for our trail crew volunteers, we welcome anyone interested in learning more about sustainable and safe trail building!
The morning session from 9:00 am-1:00 pm will focus on trail erosion control, followed by a lunch break from 1:00 – 2:00 pm, then an afternoon session in chainsaw skills from 2:00 – 4:00 pm.
Come for one or both sessions! Both sessions will start at the Bezon Barn at Hidden Valley Nature Center, about a ~¼ mile walk from the parking area along the service road.
Please note: If you are interested in the afternoon session, please bring your chainsaw, chaps, steel toes, and ear and eye protection.
You should be comfortable using a saw. To learn the basics of chainsaw use, consider taking one of our chainsaw safety courses!

Maine winemakers create a wide variety of wines using all manner of ingredients – grapes, blueberries, rhubarb, honey, and more! In this class, attendees will enjoy a guided tasting of 5-6 grape-based Maine white wines, comparing and contrasting not only the wines themselves but the grape varietals used. Attendees will also learn about the techniques winemakers use to influence the characteristics of the wine – like “dry,” “sweet,” “creamy,” or “fruity.”
This interactive class is held in our brand-new Learning Center and is taught by Lynda Gaines, a WSET Level 3 certified wine enthusiast. The price of your ticket includes a full pour of one of your top-rated wines from the class in the Tasting Room immediately following the class.
Due to the nature of this class, all attendees must be ages 21+.
