Milk is one of the world’s most valuable agricultural commodities. But, with more than 270 million dairy cows across the globe, it comes with a significant carbon “hoofprint,” from chemically-manufactured fertilizers to manure to the methane cows naturally ‘burp’ during digestion. For decades, dairy farmers have sought solutions to reduce their environmental impact while operating on slim profit margins.
Algae-based cattle feed additives are a growing, climate-friendly industry that holds the promise of profitability for dairy farmers and the working waterfront alike. Join Senior Research Scientist Nichole Price as she presents emergent research and an exciting new approach to sustainable aqua-terra food systems and climate mitigation.

The Peace Gallery in Damariscotta is pleased to welcome Darshan Music back at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 17, for another community session of Ecstatic Kirtan.
Increasingly popular in the U.S., this ancient call-and-response form of chanting is actually a type of yoga, and Darshan Music’s modern take on this ancient form offers participants the benefits of a yoga class or deep meditation.
Ever since they combined forces in 2017, Darshan Music members Carla Renzi (percussion) and Justin Maseychik (harmonium) have been performing their interpretation of the Kirtan songbook in studios and venues across the country. Their music has been described as “transcendent and beautiful.” During the event, participants are invited to sing, clap, or sit just quietly. The emphasis of any performance is surrender to the One through repetition of the Names of God.
Participants report reduced stress and increased sleep after a session.
All community members are welcome at this intimate venue, the event is offered by donation. The Peace Gallery has brought numerous community health and healing events to the region, and exhibited the work of more than 20 veteran artists. In addition to unique events like Darshan Music’s performance, the gallery offers weekly yoga, meditation, and other classes.
These classes are offered free to area veterans and are listed on The Peace Gallery website thepeacegallery.com.
Located at 112 Main St., Damariscotta, The Peace Gallery is a community-based veteran’s art collaborative dedicated to supporting and showcasing the creative work of veterans, and providing a community resource for practices that support health, well-being and a mutual understanding.
