Join us at Skidompha Public Library for the area premiere of THE LIBRARIANS, a story told through the personal experiences of librarians and the everyday citizens who join their ranks in defense of books and what they symbolize.
THE LIBRARIANS was directed and produced by Kim A. Snyder. The film explores an unprecedented wave of book banning in Texas, Florida, and beyond, where librarians, flanked by concerned community members and young readers, join forces fighting for intellectual freedom on the front lines of democracy.
The film premiered at Sundance in January 2025 and was shown at South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, TX; Full Frame Documentary Film Festival in Durham, NC; and the Maine International Film Festival in Waterville.
The film runs 92 minutes and will be followed by a short discussion.
Concession sales including the best popcorn ever are courtesy of our friends at the Lincoln Theater.
Seating in Porter Hall is limited. RSVP and questions about accommodations: gsmith@skidompha.org. Pay What You Can at the door.
All proceeds support Skidompha operations and programs.

In the United States, 30-40% of the food supply is wasted. What if farms could turn that waste into a resource instead of a problem? In this talk led by Noah Arbuckle based on his capstone research project, learn what feeding food waste to pigs and laying hens could mean for both nutrition and sustainability.
Noah Arbuckle, a high school senior, is the son of John and Holly Arbuckle, the farmers behind Singing Pastures, a ninth-generation regenerative farm in Newcastle, Maine. The Arbuckles are known for raising livestock on pasture using regenerative practices that restore soil health, support biodiversity, and produce nourishing food.

The Novel Jazz Septet will be returning to the Skidompha Public Library for what they are affectionately calling, “The Great Pumpkin Jam”, on Saturday, 11 October, 2025, at 7:00PM.
They will be playing an evening of jazz out of the Great American Songbook, with tunes befitting the fall season. Proceeds will benefit Skidompha and its Little Food Pantry. This is the 21st year in which Novel Jazz has been playing straight-ahead jazz for audiences throughout Maine (and beyond). The band will be welcoming the very-talented guest percussionist, Rusty Quinn that evening.
Admission is free and all are welcome to this special concert, but in lieu of purchasing a ticket, the library requests that attendees bring either a financial donation (suggested $20/person) for the library, food or personal hygiene items for Skidompha’s Little Food Pantry, all to support other community members in need. Pantry items must not be expired and must be unopened. Admission is otherwise free of charge and a donation is not required for attendance.
Join NJS for an evening of swinging jazz for the “Great Pumpkin Jam” during the Damariscotta Pumpkin Fest weekend, all to benefit Skidompha’s Little Food Pantry!

This class introduces the vocabulary of book anatomy, the tools needed for hand book binding and material considerations for making beginner book structures. On the first evening we will explore hand decorated papers, using broad edged mark-making tools and round pointed tip brushes in calligraphic ways. The second night we will stitch two pamphlet books, binding them with soft and hard covers. Finally we will create pocket accordion books and begin to consider how to design an artist book.

Actor and musician Jeff Daniels comes to Maine this fall, and we are thrilled to welcome this man of many talents to our stage.
Here’s how Jeff describes himself: “Well, mostly I act and whatever I did must have worked because I’m doing it more now than
in any decade of my career which is not how they draw it up in Star School. In 1976, I drove to New York City to learn everything I didn’t know, achieving just enough success along the way to inch my way up the Serious Actor Ladder. As my career marched on, I appeared in over seventy films, numerous television shows, returned again and again to the theatre, and am currently riding a string of once-in-a-lifetime roles in NEWSROOM, GODLESS, LOOMING TOWER, THE COMEY RULE and a year long run on Broadway as Atticus Finch in TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD. Much as I love acting, however, I don’t do it every day. The only thing I do every day, the only thing I want to do, the only thing I have to do, is play my acoustic guitar. Back in ’76, I bought a Guild D-40, tossed it into the backseat of a beat-up Buick and chased a dream. I had no idea I was bringing along my best friend.
The one I would need, the one I would turn to, the one I would rely on. And now, decades later, the one who knows what I’m all about.
Sometimes I’m asked if I’ll ever write a book and I always answer that I already have. It’s in my songs.”
Come hear his songs tonight. Advance discount tickets $35, available only from the box office at 207-633-5159 (open Wed – Fri from 10-2).
Regular tickets $40, online at boothbayoperahouse.com and on the day of show if available.
