Trudy & Michael Mayhew's Solar Home Tour
60 Campbell St,
Boothbay Harbor
10/15/2016 | 10:00 am – 3:15 pm
To interested friends and neighbors;
There will be a tour of the Mayhews’ Solar Home on Saturday, October 15th, from 10- 3
located at: 60 Campbell St., Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538
Please come visit this 2,950 sf solar home with attached greenhouse, solar hot water, solar hot air and solar electric systems. It is a demonstration of green building practices that includes a synergistic blend of an attached greenhouse with 1,00 gallon (thermal mass) pool, a radiant floor heating system on the lower level, a mini split dx heat pump on the 2nd floor, and the solar air heating system on the 3rd floor, inside of a superinsulated building envelope. The grounds have raised organic, produce and flower gardens, beer hops, apple, cherry and peach trees and is situated on an elevated location, with a south-facing harbor view.
This home is a very close to net-zero energy, and is often net-zero electric. This 35-year work-in-progress is incrementally approaching net zero energy.
This tour is part of the American Solar Energy Association’s Solar Home Tour.

What was Wiscasset like 200 years ago today? The Lady in the Red Cloak will walk you through the Village and the Ancient Burial Ground, sharing history, folklore and ghost stories. The Embargo and the War of 1812 had done its damage, but Wiscasset did not wither away. There were still many families and businesses in town. What did people do for past times? What were those sustaining businesses? Why was Wiscasset passed over for the state capital? On this moderate walk you’ll step back in time and see Wiscasset in a different way than you do while driving through, or running your errands. This is not the same tour as the evening lantern lit Red Cloak Haunted History Tour.
