Traditionally, The River Tripper’s first cruise in the spring is a Free Mother’s Day Tour for all the wonderful mothers (with a paying guest) on May 14th, 2pm – 4pm.
An unforgettable ride along seven oysters farms that are just re-opening for the season, hot cider and blankets are provided. The view of charismatic harbor seals, ospreys fixing up their nests to lay the next generation of chicks. Bald eagles, herons, eiders, loons and a wide variety of ducks are in full swing. The Boat Bar will be open if you want to spice up your cider or taste Olga’s bellini and Damariscotta River oysters on the half shell. These are always a Mom and crowd pleasers.

Join The Lady in the Red Cloak for a lantern lit walking tour of Boothbay Harbor. Discover the back streets and hidden stories of the area, its mysteries and haunts. See the “most haunted building in Maine,” hear many ghostly tales, including that of private Mr. Duffy and the welcoming ship captain, while you experience a one-of-a-kind evening in this quaint harbor town. The Sheepscot Valley Children’s House will hold its annual May Festival and Open House on Saturday, May 20 from 11am to 2pm.
This event is open to the public and is an excellent opportunity to see the school, meet new friends, meet our staff and learn about our PreK-Kindergarten, preschool, toddler and summer programs for 2017-2018.
This family-friendly event will feature a complimentary lunch, snacks, drinks, face painting, craft making, bounce house, raffles, a bake sale and great music. Sharon Pyne will lead our May Pole celebration. All proceeds from the festival and raffle will benefit SVCH’s scholarship fund and school programs.
This year, SVCH will feature a canoe raffle as part of their May Festival event. The canoe to be raffled off is a brand new Old Town canoe and comes with paddles and lifejackets. The 16-foot canoe features two contoured seats with seat backs, a center bench seat for smaller passengers, as well as storage space and rod holders for water adventures. Raffle tickets are $5 each or 3 for $10. They can be purchased at the school office at 127 Federal St. in Wiscasset. Drawing for this raffle will be held on May 20th, at the May Festival. Please help support a local school.

The Oyster Farms & Seal Watching Tour takes in the Damariscotta River’s wildlife and its new role in oyster farming, that makes this tidal river world famous. We will sail by seven oyster farms that raise these very tasty bivalves. You’ll see harbor seals in action or basking on the ledges, and pass by Maine’s oldest wooden-boat builder in operation. Captain Chip will regale you with local history, natural lore, and tales of his own life on the river. You can purchase the famous shellfish from Olga’s Raw Bar onboard and pair them with a delightful summer drink.
All seals (and oyster farmers) are curious and photogenic, regardless of their age! The trips are partially narrated. Educational and fun for the whole family!
