Governor Directs Flags to Half-Staff Statewide for Pittsburgh Victims

In respect for the victims of the tragic synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh on Saturday, Oct. 27, Gov. Paul R. LePage has directed that the United States flag and the State of Maine flag be flown at half-staff immediately until sunset on Wednesday, Oct. 31.

Lee Morris Saunders, 74, of Jefferson, passed away on Oct. 24 at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta, with his wife and daughters by his side. Lee was born on Dec. 23, 1943 in Portsmouth, N.H. to William Z. Saunders and Dorothy (Hansen) Saunders.

River Company one-acts: Last Wednesday, Oct. 17, I attended the dress rehearsal for the one-act plays that River Company is currently in the midst of staging in the Porter Meeting Hall at Skidompha Library in Damariscotta. “Trifles” and “Frankenstein,” directed by Ruth Monsell and Torie DeLisle, respectively, feature some well-known local names, such as Sumner Richards, Mitchell Wellman, and Joe Lugosch. Lugosch stars in both plays – as the county attorney in “Trifles” and as Victor Frankenstein in “Frankenstein.”
