On March 25, 1988, an innovative new store opened in Portland. Now Mexicali Blues can be found in six locations around Maine, and it continues to grow and thrive. The store is celebrating its 30th anniversary.

Zucchini is a popular summer veggie, prolific around this time of year in Maine, as it’s one of the easiest vegetables to grow. But it’s a little lacking in taste, unless you roast it with plenty of garlic, salt, and olive oil. Then it’s yummy. But what isn’t yummy with garlic, olive oil, and salt? And with some Parmesan cheese thrown on top to turn golden brown when roasted? Duh.
Area Children to Benefit from Library Fundraiser
Money raised at the upcoming Bands for Books event organized by Friends of the Wiscasset Public Library will help pay for new carpeting and painting in the library’s children’s room and for the purchase of electronic tablets children can borrow to download books and take home for a few weeks.
Harbor Theater
Harbor Theater in Boothbay Harbor has an exciting program planned for the month of September and beyond. Major films, independent films, documentaries, and special events will start Saturday, Sept. 1 and continue through the fall and winter. The theater will be open seven days a week until late September.
Artful Color to Abound at Wiscasset Art Walk
Color, color everywhere – and all of it meant to be drunk deeply. Guest artists in pop-up galleries and sidewalk displays by local community groups will add even more variety to the village’s collection of galleries, antique venues, and shops. Doors open wide to local residents and visitors from away during the Wiscasset Art Walk on Thursday, Aug. 30 from 5-8 p.m.
TLC3 Offers Free Help for Adults to Attend College
Those 19 or older planning to go to college have the opportunity to benefit from one-on-one counseling, mentoring, and support to help them successfully move on to college and earn a degree and/or decide on a career that is a perfect fit – with free help from the Lincoln County College Connection, aka TLC3.

Folk Duo in Waldoboro Aug. 24
Medomak Arts Project, at 13 Friendship St. in downtown Waldoboro, will host a night of free music on Friday, Aug. 24 from 6-8 p.m. The featured performers will be singer-guitarists Heather Richard and Tim Hill.
