Red Cross Blood Drive at First National Bank
The American Red Cross will visit the Damariscotta office of First National Bank for a blood drive. The drive, which is sponsored by First National Bank, will take place on Tuesday, July 25, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Red Cross will send its donor coach, a converted recreational vehicle specifically designed for their blood collection. The coach will be parked on Water Street adjacent to the bank’s public entrance. The registration table will be located in the front lobby of First National Bank.
Damariscotta Selectmen Reschedule Meeting
The Damariscotta Board of Selectmen will hold its second meeting of June at Great Salt Bay Community School at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 14, prior to the annual town meeting. This selectmen’s meeting replaces the regularly scheduled meeting June 21.

Despite Record-Breaking Harvests, Fewer Baby Lobsters in Gulf of Maine
Despite an abundance of egg-bearing adult lobsters and record-breaking harvests, the number of young lobsters continues to fall in the Gulf of Maine. That is the 2016 update from the American Lobster Settlement Index, an international monitoring program founded in 1989 by University of Maine marine scientist Rick Wahle.
Historical Association Offers Summer Program for Kids
Registration is now open for Summer with the Past, three week-long day camp sessions for children ages 7 through 11. Sponsored by the Lincoln County Historical Association, each session will be held at a different Lincoln County Historical Association site: the 1754 Chapman-Hall House in Damariscotta, June 26-30; the 1761 Pownalborough Court House in Dresden, July 10-14; and the 1811 Old Jail in Wiscasset, Aug. 7–11.
Lincoln Academy Graduation
Lincoln Academy graduation has been moved inside to the gym due to thunderstorms. Graduation will still take place at 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 1.
Free Fishing Weekend is June 3 and 4
Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife is encouraging everyone to get out on Maine’s waters to take advantage of free fishing days. Free fishing weekend will take place on Saturday and Sunday, June 3 and 4, when any person may fish for free without a license on Maine’s waterways, except those who have had their license suspended or revoked. All other rules and regulations, including bag and possession limits, apply.
IF&W Accepting Nominations for Outdoor Achievement Award
The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife is accepting nominations for the 2017 Annual Lifetime Outdoor Achievement Award. This award, which is presented by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife, honors individuals who have been dedicated to the use of our natural resources and who are embedded in Maine’s rich outdoor traditions.
Governor Directs Flags to Be Lowered on Memorial Day
On Thursday, May 25, Gov. Paul R. LePage directed that the United States flag and the State of Maine flag at all state facilities will be flown at half-staff Monday in observance of Memorial Day, Monday, May 29. Flags should be flown at half-staff from sunrise until noon on Monday, May 29.
New Camp for Girls Emphasizes Power of Nature
Registration is now open for Hearty Roots, a new summer camp program for girls ages 9-15. Founded by Haley Bezon, a school counselor at Edgecomb Eddy School, the camp will provide girls with a “growth-producing” summer camp experience utilizing the restorative powers of nature.
Free Ice Cream for Vets on Memorial Day Weekend
To show its appreciation for the sacrifice of U.S. veterans, Total Victory Ice Cream in Waldoboro will be dispensing free ice cream to all military personnel and veterans on Memorial Day weekend, Friday-Monday, May 26-29. The venue will be open from 3-7 p.m. Thursday through Sunday to start the season, with expanded hours coming later as demand increases.
Boothbay-Area Organization Wins United Way Community Builder Award
At its annual meeting in May, United Way of Mid Coast Maine presented its Community Builder awards to the Boothbay region’s Hope and Resilience Committee and to the Midcoast Community Alliance in Sagadahoc County, two coalitions working to prevent youth suicide.
