Area students recently learned about community journalism and the importance of local newspapers through classroom visits from a Lincoln County News staffer and tours of LCN headquarters.

The Bristol Area Lions Club recently donated $500 to the Caring for Kids Christmas project. This year, the club is celebrating the 25th year of the Christmas project. Each year, the project has provided Bristol and South Bristol children with full sets of winter gear, complete outfits, books, toys and much more. The project also provides older teens and preteens with personal hygiene bags and the aforementioned items, as well as gift cards to local stores so they can purchase items in their style and size.

Maurice “Jake” Day’s Christmas dioramas are on display at Milling Around, at 67 Main St. in Newcastle, through Jan. 5. They will be lit from sunset until 9 p.m.

This holiday season, LincolnHealth wishes to remind community members of the difference they can make year-round by becoming a volunteer.

Midcoast Humane will host its annual Home for the Holidays special adoption event on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 15 and 16 at the shelter’s Brunswick campus at 30 Range Road. The adoption event will feature over four dozen puppies, as well as kittens, dogs, cats, and small animals for adoption. The event will be held Dec. 15 from noon-6 p.m. and Dec. 16 from noon-4 p.m.

After a weeklong voting period, the Alna Snowmobile Club swept both the Spirit Award and the People’s Choice Award for its entry in the Parade of Lights.

The Damariscotta Historical Society is still selling 2019 calendars featuring old pictures of Main Street in Damariscotta from the bridge to the Baptist Church.

For two months, the St. Andrews Village “Golden Girls” have worked diligently to make Christmas decorations for a special cause.

A small but mighty committee of volunteers helped to pull off the second annual Villages of Light celebration in Damariscotta and Newcastle on Saturday, Nov. 24.
