Whitefield Select Board Agrees to Help with Sober Center Moratorium Effort

Convinced by a crowded meeting room expressing unanimous opposition to the potential opening of a residential substance abuse treatment center in Coopers Mills, the Whitefield Select Board agreed to consult with the town’s attorney on the best way to proceed developing a moratorium that could potentially delay or derail the project entirely.

A barn that has stood on the corner of Route 32 and Biscay Road in Bremen for centuries has served many uses as the world changed around it, from farming to online retail, with a couple of media appearances in between.

‘An Independent Bird:’ Remembering Louis Doe’s Scarlet

After at least 40 years of greeting customers, Scarlet, the Louis Doe Pet Center’s resident macaw parrot, passed away from natural causes on May 15. She is remembered as an independent, smart bird dear to many who knew her as a longtime fixture of the Louis Doe Home Center in Newcastle.

Memorial Day, the last Monday in May, is set aside each year to honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to their country, Veterans Day, on Nov. 11 is celebrated each year to honor all living veterans; those who faced death and lived, and those who continue to serve today. Their stories, when given the opportunity, should be told.

Adam Ezra Group to Headline Fish Ladder Fundraiser

The Adam Ezra Group has played a number of shows and house concerts in the Midcoast, but to founder and lead singer Adam Ezra, the most memorable performances were those at Lincoln Theater benefitting the restoration of the Damariscotta Mills Fish Ladder.
