Doris Daisy Bedford, 93, passed away on the morning of May 28, at Cove’s Edge Nursing Home in Damariscotta. She was born on June 23, 1922 in West Orange, N.J., one of six children to Stanley E. Bedford and Daisy (High) Bedford. She graduated from West Orange High School in West Orange, N.J.

George Jordan Luce Jr. passed away May 24 in St. Petersburg, Fla. George was born Oct. 10, 1935 in Waldoboro, son of George J. Luce Sr. and Ruth Silsby (Hills) Luce.

Walter “Al” Allen Lewis Jr.

Walter “Al” Allen Lewis Jr. passed away at home on May 29. He was born Oct. 18, 1953 in New York City to Walter Allen and Althea (Bush) Lewis Sr.

Halver A. “Skip” Hart Jr.

A graveside service for Halver A. “Skip” Hart Jr., of Nobleboro, who passed away on Feb. 2, will be held at 3 p.m., Sat., June 4 at the East Union Cemetery in Union.

Patrick J. Whelan

Air Force Lt. Col. Patrick J. Whelan died April 11 while serving at Andersen Air Force Base on the island of Guam. He was born Dec. 1, 1969 at Otis Air Force Base, Mass. to Richard and Carole (Drinan) Whelan.

Lessie Mary Lloy

Lessie Mary Lloy, 79, of Jefferson, passed away peacefully on May 24 after a long illness at Glen Ridge Nursing Home in Augusta. Lessie was born on May 18, 1937 in Somerville to the late Charles and Mildred (Erving) Crummett.

Gordon Frederick Westhaver

Gordon Frederick Westhaver, 86, of Sevierville, Tenn., formerly of Chadbourn, N.C., went home to be with the Lord on May 7, with his daughter and son-in-law by his side, following a long illness.

Alice L. (Benner) Barstow

Alice L. (Benner) Barstow, 86, of Bristol, passed away unexpectedly as the result of an automobile accident May 13 in Wiscasset. Born in Jonesboro on Oct. 24, 1929, she was the daughter of Noyes and Nancy (Norton) O’Brien.

Christine Sherman Nelson

Christine Sherman Nelson, 94, passed away peacefully on the morning of May 16 at her home at Chase Point in Damariscotta. Christine was born on July 22, 1921 in South Newcastle, where she grew up with her parents, Fred and Lena (Cochran) Sherman, and her two older brothers, Roger and Paul. When Christine started high school, her family moved into town to be closer to Lincoln Academy.

Kenneth Verne Houghton, 72, of Alna, passed away peacefully May 4 with his loving partner of over 10 years, Arlynne, as well as his son Matthew, by his side at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.

Louise Teague Newbert, 90, of Jefferson, passed peacefully at Cove’s Edge in Damariscotta on May 16.

Philip Baker, a wonderful caring man, father, grandfather, teacher and friend, left this world due to complications from lung transplantation at Duke University Medical Center on May 13.

Reginald M. Upham I, 71, of Washington, passed May 14 with his wife and two sons by his side.

Susanne Russell Holmes

Visiting hours for Susanne Russell Holmes, who passed away March 27, will be held 5-7 p.m., Fri., May 20 at the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta. A service of remembrance will be held at 10 a.m., Sat., May 21, also at the funeral home. A reception will be held immediately following the service at the funeral home.
