As of this day, April 15, we have had The Brodster two years. It is hard to imagine how fast this time has flown by. Two years ago, this tornado of a dog came into our lives. I recall when he saw my “hooman” sister’s cat Nathan Jr. If you have ever seen National Lampoon’s “Christmas Vacation;” the scene where the Rottweiler Snots chases the squirrel throughout the house, across the dining room table. That was us!
Wit & Wisdom
The Lincoln Home’s Tidal River Writers recently wrote in response to a selection titled “Done With Waiting,” from “The Comfort of Crows,” by Margaret Renkl.
NATIONAL POPULAR VOTE
This week, Gov. Janet Mills allowed L.D. 1578, “An Act to Adopt an Interstate Compact to Elect the President of the United States by National Popular Vote” to become law without her signature. It was just passed by the state Legislature as an act to adopt an interstate compact to elect the president of the United States by national popular vote.

THANK YOU AND GOODNIGHT

Van Reid can see that stories are important to everyone, whether they realize it or not – that’s why people watch TV, go the movies, and read books. They’re especially important to the author, storyteller, and deep-rooted Edgecomb resident.
Round Pond
If you are coming down Route 32 from Bremen to Round Pond there is a bridge on the town line called The Kitty Breskin. For the life of me I had never heard that name before, of course thinking that it is a memorial bridge and related to someone in the area. I have been asking people around town about it and typically the answer is that they have wondered the same thing as well. I finally had the sense to Google it and found out that she is a woman who lives in Boothbay who was integral in the design and construction of the bridge. Mystery solved.
RESPONSIBLE SUN-STARING
Lately, flimsy plastic sunglasses have become a hot commodity. Eyes are glued to next week’s forecast, and dramatic phrases like “once in a lifetime” and “path of totality” have worked their way into everyday conversations. It can only mean one thing: An eclipse is coming, and we’re right in its path.

Thrifty Good Food Spring into Easter
Last week it was tempting to paraphrase Gilbert and Sullivan: “The snowflakes that fall in the spring, Tra la, have nothing to do with the spring.” A relatively mild early March had lulled us hoping for an early spring only to remind us, the week before Easter, of our northern location. However, the vase of forced forsythia branches on our table inspires me to think of foods for the season.
