Thank you for publishing the interview with Betsy Smith of EqualityMaine.

I was quite disturbed to read the Department of Public Safety is seriously considering the consolidation of 9-1-1 call centers. Let me tell you why.

Damariscotta and Newcastle have a unique opportunity to reduce unnecessary expenses and reduce property taxes and/or provide more funds for needed infrastructure improvements.

In a previous week’s Letters to the Editor, a writer excoriated President Obama for “overturning a bill in Congress to deport 300,000 illegal immigrants.”

When it comes to compressing a lengthy court document down to a couple hundred words for a news story, what really counts is what’s relevant and what’s relevant is what is alleged.

As a relatively new homeowner, my real estate tax bill required me to do a little research to understand the numbers. I’ve organized my thoughts and would describe them as “Tax Assessment 101” that I would share with the town.

In a recent LCN, a letter writer claimed that Anwar al-Awlaki, the American citizen living in Yemen who was killed by a predator drone missile, “was killed without due process and without any effort to capture, arrest and try him,” and “his killing was based on the mere assertion that he is a dangerous member of a terrorist organization.”

The Maine Forest Service has issued a blanket invitation to the public for help during “Landowner Appreciation Day” Oct. 15.

Marjorie and I would like to say thank you to all of the people who have stopped to talk to both of us while we are in the local shops or walking on Main Street.

As an emergency physician at Miles Memorial Hospital and former head of clinical research at a Cambridge, Mass. teaching hospital, I hope to provide some insight into the debate on Damariscotta’s water fluoridation, an issue set for a town vote on Nov. 8.

On Nov. 8, the towns of Newcastle and Damariscotta vote on a ballot issue regarding whether to continue the fluoridation of the municipal water supply. This is an important public health issue…

Recently I received a phone call, a plaintive youthful male voice saying, “Grandma?”
