Russ Lane’s 2016 film “Looking for a Hero” tells the story of his father’s rescue of five teenagers from a sinking sailboat in 1958. His new book, “Snow Angels on the Moon,” tells the story behind the story – and every bookworm knows the book is better than the movie.
Truckin’ in America
Folks, it’s a historic time in our country, for sure. Hard to believe: Only three times in the history of our country have we impeached a president, yet it’s happened twice in the last 20 or so years. What’s different this time from back in the ’90s, with President Clinton? I would dare say much.

Paws for Thought
With each New Year comes a chance for a fresh start and new resolutions. It seems that the majority of them are doomed to failure because we’re either not fully committed to them, or they’re too different from our normal routine to stick with them for more than a short time.
UN-KING-LIKE
Martin Luther King Jr. is one of a small group of figures from recent U.S. history who seems to have the admiration of Americans of all beliefs.

Lyme Time Hindsight is 20/20
“Hindsight is 20/20” is a saying coined from the mid-1900s, a phrase meaning the clarity that someone has about their past decisions and/or actions. It’s the act of looking back over something and understanding how it could have been said or done better.

Among them was Shirley McLaren, a retired nurse from Waldoboro, who traveled to Washington, D.C. for the period of Nov. 25-27 to help decorate dozens of Christmas trees with more than 2,500 strings of lights, among other things that she did.
Tales From Hunter’s Landing To golf or not to golf
Golf is an activity I was never able to warm up to.
I realize I’m in the minority, as so many people I know immerse themselves in the game completely.
LOOKING FORWARD, LOOKING BACK
Welcome to the first edition of The Lincoln County News in 2020.
As we enter the new year, we have several goals for the year ahead.
Waldoboro Wanderings ’Tis the season -- December 1874
Early December in Waldoboro 145 years ago saw a prosperous, exciting village enjoying the advent of winter and the Christmas season. There was a great deal to be proud of and to look forward to, according to the pages of the newly instituted local paper, The Lincoln County News.
Backyard Wildlife Composting
If you’re looking for a way to lower your impact on the environment, consider composting. If you already compost, you can expand what you choose to divert from the garbage. For those unfamiliar with the term, composting is the recycling of organic materials. Backyard gardeners and farmers often compost, as they use the final product on their gardens. I also compost because I want to reduce what I throw out.
