Weird times to say the least, folks. I know the truckin’ business is suffering badly, as are most businesses. It has really sunk in how we Americans, as well as the rest of the world, have been focused on getting rich instead of getting ready.
Easter Message: Sunday’s Coming
I felt honored to be asked by The Lincoln County News to write a piece for their Easter edition this week. Then it occurred to me that its publication date would actually be Maundy Thursday, the day that Jesus was betrayed by his friends and arrested. There’s a difficulty, if you will, in trying to write about the Victory before the war has been won and when the outcome is so filled with uncertainty, but here goes.
Keep the Mail Moving
During these challenging times, postal employees are working hard to ensure residents stay connected with their world through the mail. Whether it’s medications, a package, a paycheck, a benefits or pension check, or a bill or letter from a family member, postal workers understand that every piece of mail is important. While service like this is nothing new to us, we need our communities’ help with social distancing.
Backyard Wildlife Hummingbird return
Somewhere, far south of here, a male ruby-throated hummingbird is making its way to Maine. Weighing little more than a penny, this tiny bird has been traveling since it left its winter home in southern Mexico or Central America. It has already traversed the Gulf of Mexico, flying nonstop for 500 miles. Juvenile and female hummingbirds are following its path, albeit a week or so later.
STAY VIGILANT
With only one new case of COVID-19 in Lincoln County in a week, it is tempting to relax and fall back into old habits.
Reilly’s Market
I would like to publicly thank Reilly’s grocery store in New Harbor for its wonderful service.
Need to Keep Moving Forward
I have been a selectman for the town of Newcastle for the past 10 years and this is the first time in my tenure that we have needed to fill two coming vacancies. Ben Frey and Caroline Hatch have both decided to step down.
WELCOME BACK, BUT …
To our seasonal neighbors and friends, welcome back to our community. We do not begrudge you an escape from your primary residence to the sanctuary of your vacation home on our beautiful coast. But please, we beg of you, go straight there and do not leave for at least two weeks!
Rubbish! Lincoln County transfer stations: a corona update
To all those whose work is deemed essential to public health and safety and who have remained at their posts during the corona outbreak, we express our admiration and gratitude. Among the front-line folks, let us not forget those who continue to process and move the trash and recyclables that our households, not temporarily shuttered like many of our commercial enterprises, continue to generate on a daily basis.
On the Trail in Lincoln County MVLT Founders Preserve, Waldoboro
MVLT Founders Preserve consists of 107 acres and has some of the hilliest terrain found in Lincoln County. Combined with the 320-acre Quarry Hill Preserve, owned by the Town of Waldoboro, it forms a wildlife corridor of more than 400 acres that supports an abundance of species with its diverse habitat.
THANK YOU
We want to add ours to the many expressions of gratitude for the workers on the front lines of the coronavirus response.
Waldoboro Wanderings Waldoboro's Greatest Disappointment
Our current health struggle with the coronavirus is frightening to many, because of its deadly potential, and annoying to others – avoiding close contacts with people, washing hands for 20 seconds, and having to stay at home for long periods of time.

Under extraordinary circumstances, leaders of the Maine State Legislature came together, working tirelessly throughout the March 14-15 weekend, and reached agreement on a package of new laws to address the immediate needs of state government in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.
