I know some people wonder why the school has early release and workshop days and what teachers could possibly being doing with all that time away from students. Early release days and workshop days provide valuable time for staff to meet together and work on important educational topics.

The Great Salt Bay Community School Parent-Teacher Organization is holding its next meeting at 6 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 12 in John Cannon’s room at the school.

On Monday, Jan. 16 – which is Martin Luther King Jr. Day and also the national Day of Service –- the brothers of Alpha Sigma Gamma, Lincoln Academy’s service fraternity, will participate in an ecumenical day of service, as they do each January. They will be joined by members of the Baha’i Congregation and the Second Congregational Church as well as Sigma Sigma Chi, their counterpart service sorority

Welcome back to JVS for 2017! We hope that you all had a restful and merry winter break. Don’t forget to bundle students up for the cold weather. I see many students coming in with just a sweatshirt or no jacket at all in the mornings. Brr!

Great Salt Bay Community School in Damariscotta received a $500 grant to fund math and science programs due to the efforts of the manager of a local gas station.

The Great Salt Bay Community School Parent-Teacher Organization would like to introduce its new co-presidents, Douglas Straus and Liza Fleming-Ives. They were voted in at the PTO’s Nov. 17 meeting, taking over for Amy Krawic, who has served as PTO president and a volunteer with the PTO for many years.

For the second year in a row, RSU 12 is offering expanded pre-kindergarten opportunities at its schools, and positive benefits of this expansion are already evident. School administrators and kindergarten teachers are impressed with the gains realized by the children who participated in the pre-K program last year.
