Marimba music, composed on the m’bira, hosho and ngoma, is a traditional form of African expression with deep roots traced back nearly a thousand years. The Pemaquid Oyster Festival, an annual celebration of the working waterfront and the Damariscotta River where the Pemaquid oyster is farmed, is set for Sunday, September 24 in Damariscotta. Last year over 15,000 oysters were served at the event, which benefits the Edward A. Myers Marine Conservation Fund. The celebration includes music, educational exhibits, boat rides, and lots of oysters harvested fresh from the Damariscotta River that morning. (There is also a menu with lots of choices other than oysters!) The event is free of charge and takes place from noon to dusk right on the shore of the Damariscotta River at historic Schooner Landing Restaurant and Marina on Main St. in Damariscotta and at near-by businesses. Giving Excellent Care in the Home: From our Home to Yours
The Lincoln Home is pleased to offer a free twenty hour course, Giving Excellent Care in the Home, for informal caregivers who have or want to have home care giving experience and who are not certified as a PSS or a CNA in the state of Maine.
This course focuses on practical skills necessary to safely and skillfully provide personalized, high quality care by applying a solid base of practical knowledge on which to build confident care-giving.
• If you suddenly find yourself facing family care-giving responsibilities, then this class is for you.
• If you want to gain solid skills for informal home care-giving, then this class is definitely for you.
• If you want to prepare for working with an agency providing personal and homemaker services, this class is truly for you!
A course completion certificate will be given to all participants who complete the full 20 hours of training. Completion of the class will not result in a formal, state-approved certification.

Miles & St. Andrews Home Health & Hospice’s grief support group meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 2 p.m. in Damariscotta. Coping with loss is discussed in a supportive and confidential environment, facilitated by trained volunteers who receive supervision from experienced clinicians. Miles & St. Andrews Home Health & Hospice group facilitators understand that each person’s reaction to grief is unique. Topics of discussion and sharing during their meetings include dealing with loneliness, understanding the grieving process, adjusting to life without the loved one, and learning how others and dealing with their challenges.
In addition to providing grief and bereavement services, Miles & St. Andrews Home Health & Hospice offers a comprehensive range of Home Health & Hospice services from companionship to highly-skilled nursing and therapy in homes and facilities throughout Midcoast Maine. Their grief support groups are free of charge, however, registration is required.

We act locally, holding our elected representatives accountable for their positions. This year, MCMI held a Listening Session for Senator Collins, a Tax Protest in Thomaston, an I Can’t Keep Quiet Sing Out in Camden, a Die-In in Rockland, an environmental protest at the Rockland Breakwater, sent postcards and made hundreds of phone calls, visited Sen. Collin’s office weekly, marched in the Thomaston Independence Day Parade and joined other nearby Indivisible groups at their events. What you need to know/bring:
–Wear comfortable clothing that can stretch and move with you. Pop into the store before class if you’d like us to help you pick out an awesome yoga-friendly outfit!
–Mats and props will be provided, but feel free to bring your own.
–While in class, remember that yoga is all about honoring your body, and if it says slow down or don’t do something that hurts, listen.
