Deer ticks (or blacklegged ticks) are a major threat to the health and sanity of Midcoast residents. Incidences of Lyme disease and other tickborne diseases are becoming more and more prevalent. At 5 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 3, at the Bristol Area Library, Bob Emmons will discuss factors that affect tick populations, their life history, and other information that will help participants in their struggle to enjoy the outdoors without becoming tick hosts. Emphasis will be on avoidance techniques. Repellents will be evaluated for effectiveness. And tick myths will be exposed. (No, they don’t come back for revenge after being flushed down the toilet.)
Emmons was a professor of plant science at the State University of New York, Cobleskill for 31 years. His major teaching areas were entomology, plant pathology, and integrated pest management.
The Bristol Area Library is located in Pemaquid at the corner of Route 130 and Old County Road.
