Buildings that once seemed ordinary will take on eerie new dimensions as The Lady in the Red Cloak relives their history and that of the ghostly entities that are said to still reside there. Portland Symphony Orchestra Musicians’ Kinderkonzert and Instrument Petting Zoo to Benefit the Historic Head Tide Church
The Portland Symphony Orchestra ensemble will give a Kinderconzert at the Head Tide Church, 17 Head Tide Church Road in Alna. In this performance especially for young people, members of the PSO will demonstrate how music may be used to tell a story.
A unique feature of the performance will be a “Petting Zoo of Instruments”. Musicians and volunteers allow kids play, toot, bang, strum and blow all kinds of instruments – strings, percussion, woodwinds, brass. And then to top off a perfect afternoon for families, ice cream, cookies and lemonade!

The public is invited to come to The Lincoln Home in Newcastle from 3-4 p.m., Monday, Aug. 8 to hear Russ Lane Jr. tell a riveting tale of his father, Russell A. Lane. A local hero, Russell Lane was a lighthouse keeper at the Whitehead Light Station. His son will share his documentary film showing the heroic rescue of five young people from a sinking sailboat in Penobscot Bay. The film documents an emotional reunion between the shipmates and their rescuers 57 years later.

Traumatic experiences can impair a person’s sense of self, relationships and belief in a hopeful and promising future. Working through trauma and building new skills can provide deep healing and break the cycle of abuse. Under the guidance of Jane Carson Sandler, RN, US Air Force Retired and author of “Frozen in Fear”: A True Story, Spectrum Generations Coastal Community Center, 521 Main Street in Damariscotta is forming a weekly support group for women survivors will offer opportunities for healing and support women’s ability to transform their experience from trauma into hope. Trauma isolates; group creates a sense of belonging. Support group gatherings will take place Monday evening beginning on August 8. Jane is hoping that when she leave for her winter residence in South Carolina that the group will be able to continue on its own. Donation: $1.
