An evening lantern lit tour will explore Boothbay Harbor, discovering ghosts and history, spirits and mystery. Buildings that once seemed ordinary will take on eerie new dimensions as The Lady in the Red Cloak relives their history and that of the ghostly entities that are said to still reside there. Learn exercises that will help strengthen the upper back, neck and shoulders. All of these exercises and stretches deal with the muscles that are directly responsible for the problem of shoulders hunching forward. More often than not, poor posture is due to a combination of both weak and tight muscles, so both stretching and strengthening are important for improving posture. Canine Good Citizen (CGC) is a certification program developed by the American Kennel Club (AKC) that is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The CGC Program is open to mixed breed and purebred dogs, and stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs.
This 6-week class offered by Spectrum Generations and Professional Dog Trainer Jean Conte in partnership with the Lincoln Home will prepare human and canine students for the optional Canine Good Citizen test. Classes meet for 1 hour each week at the Lincoln Home, 22 River Road in Newcastle beginning on August 25 at 6:30 p.m.
The course covers in detail each of the 10 items included on the CGC test:
• Accepting a friendly stranger
• Sitting politely for petting
• Appearance and grooming
• Out for a walk (walking on a loose lead)
• Walking through a crowd
• Sit and down on command and Staying in place
• Coming when called
• Reaction to another dog
• Reaction to distraction
• Supervised separation

The Pemaquid Watershed Association’s Beachcombers’ Rest Nature Center will host its final workshop of the summer called Beach Roses — Rosehips and Recipes. Participants will explore how Rosa rugosa, or the beach rose, has much more to offer than its stunning beauty and wonderful scent. This program will be held rain or shine and is for families and people of all ages.
The workshop is free, but participants must pay the town of Bristol’s admission fee to Pemaquid Beach Park.
