Barbara V. Bowman, 91, of Waldoboro, went home to the Lord on May 21, 2019 at Chase Point in Damariscotta surrounded by her family. She was born May 9, 1928 in Warren, the daughter of Ben and Bertha Perry.

It was a rainy windy night in January 1949 when the T. E. Gay and Son grocery store on Main Street, above the bridge, was broken into. Thomas Gay writes of it in his memoirs.

As Benjamin Franklin said, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Yet, the numbers of Maine children who are not vaccinated continue to grow, and measles, a disease that was considered eradicated in the United States in 2000, has spread to 22 states across the country.

Celia Bennett Varick Jan. 13, 1938 - April 11, 2019

Celia Bennett Varick was born Jan. 13, 1938 in Cincinnati, Ohio. After a long life lived in Ohio, Maine, Iowa, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas, she died at Oak Grove Nursing Home in Waterville on April 11, 2019.

Robert W. Gatcombe July 1, 1928 - May 17, 2019

Early in the morning of May 17, 2019, Robert W. Gatcombe left us on the ebbing tide after a long illness. He died peacefully at home. Robert had been in the care of Northern Light Home Care and Hospice for over a year.

Lorraine Emerson Hodgdon Dec. 11, 1933 - May 18, 2019

Lorraine Emerson Hodgdon passed peacefully, with loving family by her side, May 18, 2019 following a short illness. She and her husband, Stanley J. Hodgdon of Trevett, just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary together with their large family.
