Munson was considered elderly when I met him. His owners, who obviously loved him despite any faults he may have had, described him as “anxious.” Now, to be fair, they did give me “that” look when they said it, so I should have known that was them saying the kindest thing they could about their beloved canine, but it took me a day or two to catch on.

Wiscasset Man Arrested After Standoff

A Wiscasset man was arrested after a nearly eight-hour standoff that forced the evacuation of a four-unit apartment building near Route 1 early Saturday, Dec. 15.

Divorces

Justin T. Eliason-Robbins, of Wiscasset, and Angela L. Robbins, of Rockland, were granted a divorce on Oct. 24. They were married in Alna on July 22, 2008. Name changed to Justin Tyme Eliason.

Bristol Area Lions Donate $500 to Caring for Kids

The Bristol Area Lions Club recently donated $500 to the Caring for Kids Christmas project. This year, the club is celebrating the 25th year of the Christmas project. Each year, the project has provided Bristol and South Bristol children with full sets of winter gear, complete outfits, books, toys and much more. The project also provides older teens and preteens with personal hygiene bags and the aforementioned items, as well as gift cards to local stores so they can purchase items in their style and size.

Kendall Freeland (Peter) Forsberg

Kendall Freeland (Peter) Forsberg, 87, of Newington, Conn., passed away peacefully on Dec. 7. He was the beloved husband of Sabra Elizabeth (Betty) Dewey Forsberg.

Newcastle History The waters of Newcastle

Samuel Waters came to Newcastle from England. He probably came first to Massachusetts, as he married Mary Kennedy of Bridgewater, Mass. He purchased 200 acres of land in Newcastle at the head of Dyer’s Neck, where it stretched in an uneven pattern from river to river, according to the Rev. David Quimby Cushman in his “History of Ancient Sheepscot and Newcastle.” No date is given for his birth or when he came to Maine but his oldest children were born in the 1760s, when he was, undoubtedly, a young man so he probably was born around 1740.
