“MDOT, we need to talk” is something we’ve been seeing since December of last year. In fact, the Maine Department of Transportation has done a lot of talking, and listening, since Option 2 was unveiled and voted on overwhelmingly by Wiscasset voters.
Little Red Signs?
Frequent Bristol Road users may notice a recently planted series of little red “no more delays” signs on lawns on both sides of the road. They are meant to be gentle reminders to the public and the “powers that be” that the often delayed sidewalk project and the obviously needed repairs for Bristol Road deserve to become a high priority on the Maine Department of Transportation’s 2018 to-do list.
All-Gender Facilities Are More Welcoming
I was dismayed to read that Damariscotta’s new downtown restrooms will be “gendered” instead of unisex, as originally planned. Creating all-gender bathroom facilities puts a more positive, family-friendly image on our community. National retailers such as Target, T.J. Maxx, Walgreens, and Starbucks now provide unisex facilities for their customers. Some local businesses offer them as well, I’m sure.
Beauty Walks at Chapman Farm
Scientific reports suggest that spending time in nature is good for people. Taking a walk in a natural setting promotes relaxation, reflection, and self-awareness. Spending time in nature with others promotes a sense of connection and community. Scientific studies confirm what many people already know to be true in their bodies and minds. Midcoast Mainers live in a beautiful corner of the world, and the coast, forests and fields of the region provide ample opportunities for recreation, exploration, and appreciation.

On Tuesday, May 1, Ocean Blue Fitness owner Jessica Daly will open Ocean Blue Pilates Yoga at 13 Back Meadow Road in Nobleboro. This beautiful studio, specially equipped to offer heated and humidified classes, is located in the top of the recently restored grange hall.
Final Simply Supper Event is April 17
The final seasonal Simply Supper free community meal will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17 at the Bremen Union Church, 523 Waldoboro Road, Bremen. Planning this event will be chairpersons Christine Duffy and Gordon Eisleib, both of Damariscotta. The congregation is busy offering help for the meal, which will include assorted pizzas, several salads, bread and/or chips, a beverage, and assorted homemade desserts.
