The Lincoln County Fire Chiefs Association honored three members at their annual lobster dinner at the South Bristol Fire Department, Aug. 17.

School Administrative District (SAD) 40, which includes the Miller School, Medomak Middle School and Medomak Valley High School in Waldoboro, has announced that the first day of school will be postponed. There will be no school on Mon., Aug. 29, according to the SAD 40 website. Instead the school year will begin on Tues., Aug.30.

Central Maine Power Company (CMP) has activated its emergency response plans in anticipation of Hurricane Irene’s arrival over the weekend. The company is coordinating its planning with the Maine Emergency Management Agency and county-level emergency agencies.

Cynthia Simonds, of Newcastle, best known for her MPBN show “Fresh to Flavorful” and popular cook books “Fresh Maine Salads,” “Superb Maine Soups” and “Delicious Maine Desserts,” has been named an Honorary Chef of Maine by the Dept. of Agriculture and will represent the state at the 2011 Big E Agricultural Festival in Springfield, Mass.

On the heels of US Fish and Wildlife ruling that a disputed eagle nest on Davis Island cannot be moved, Edgecomb resident Byron Johnson has drafted an alternate bypass route, which he said could shorten the plan by one half mile.

Johnson, a civil and traffic engineer, made his presentation during a meeting of the Edgecomb Bypass Taskforce July 26.

Detective Lance Mitchell and Officer Sean Kozer from the Waldoboro Police Dept. arrested Scott Elwell, 47, of South Thomaston on July 21, for attempting to pass four counterfeit $20 bills at the Rockland Savings Bank, Rt. 1 Waldoboro.
