Advance directives can help one’s family members, friends, and medical providers understand one’s wishes and offer care and support that aligns with one’s priorities concerning medical treatment at the end of life. On Thursday, Oct. 18 from 10 a.m. to noon, Inn Along the Way in Damariscotta will host attorney Marcia DeGeer as she leads attendees through a conversation on advance directives.
Turkey Dinner in Somerville
The Somerville Fire Department will hold a turkey dinner with all the fixings on Saturday, Oct. 13 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. The dinner will be held at the fire house on Route 17 in Somerville. The price of the dinner is $10 per person, and $5 per child 6-12 years old. Kids under 5 are free. A family rate is also available.
Round Top Plans Oct. 9 Benefit for Isabelle Manahan Memorial Fund
Stephanie Poland, owner of Round Top Ice Cream, at 526 Main St. in Damariscotta, has announced that the ice cream stand will donate all proceeds from the sales on the closing day of its season to benefit the Isabelle Manahan Memorial Fund at Lincoln Academy in Newcastle. This special event will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Benefit for Connor McLean in Jefferson
On Saturday, Oct. 6 from 2-7 p.m., a community fundraiser will be held for Wiscasset Middle High School student and cancer patient Connor McLean at Broken Acres Farm, located on Valley Road in Jefferson. Connor, who lives in Whitefield, is the son of Beth Berry McKinney and Scott McKinney.
Pemaquid Mill Party, Presentation in Bristol Mills
Members of the public are invited to a cocktail party and presentation at The 1812 Farm in Bristol Mills on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 6 p.m., about the proposed purchase and restoration of the Pemaquid Mill. It will be hosted by Damariscotta River Association and the newly formed Friends of Pemaquid Mill.
Turkey Supper in Bremen
The Bremen Fire Department will be hosting its annual turkey supper on Saturday, Oct. 27 at the fire station, on Route 32 in Bremen. The supper, which includes turkey and all the fixings, will be held from 5-7 p.m. The cost is $12 for adults and $6 for children.
Pumpkinfest Breakfast
The Wells-Hussey American Legion Post No. 42 Auxiliary, on upper Main Street in Damariscotta, will hold a public breakfast on Sunday, Oct. 7 starting at 7 a.m.
Clamshell Quilters to Meet Oct. 8
The Clamshell Quilters group will meet at the Faith Baptist Church on Mills Road in Newcastle Monday, Oct. 8. Guests, visitors, and new members are always welcome. There will be an informal sew-and-chat session from 2 p.m. until cleanup at around 5 p.m. Be sure to bring food and drink if planning to stay throughout the afternoon and evening.
Gravel Roads Workshop Postponed Until Nov. 7
Midcoast Conservancy and the Knox-Lincoln Soil & Water Conservation District will host a gravel roads workshop on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at the Jefferson fire station. This workshop was previously scheduled for Oct. 10.
Financial Aid Seminar in Wiscasset
FAME (Finance Authority of Maine) will hold an educational seminar on paying for higher education in the Lincoln County Communications 9-1-1 conference room on Monday, Oct. 15 from 9 a.m. to noon. This two-part session will first focus on the benefits of savings and how the financial aid process works. FAME will then share tips to help families navigate the process and maximize eligibility.

The first week of fall brings adventures for all to Boothbay Railway Village. Mid-week, there will be a fascinating travel tale and old-fashioned fall festivities on the weekend.
Cider-Pressing Day at Pownalborough Courthouse
Members of the public are invited to bring apples and press their own cider at Pownalborough Courthouse, at 23 Courthouse Road in Dresden, on Sunday, Sept. 30 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The stewardship committee of the historic site will provide participants with an electric grinder or a traditional press. A bushel of apples makes two dozen gallons of cider. (One should keep in mind that perfect apples are not necessary to make excellent cider.)
AppleFest Returns on Oct. 13 in Nobleboro
Nobleboro Historical Society’s annual AppleFest will take place on Saturday, Oct. 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Nobleboro Central School and the Nobleboro Historical Society Historical Center.
Introductory Italian Language Class
A six-week introductory Italian language course for visitors to Italy will take place at Skidompha Library in Damariscotta on Mondays, Oct. 15 through Nov. 19 at 3 p.m. The course is free of charge but seating is limited.
