Syed “Sammy” Osama Ali Zaidi, a Class of 2014 alumnus of Lincoln Academy in Newcastle, graduated magna cum laude from Wheaton College, in Norton, Mass. He double-majored in film and new media studies, and political science. He was inducted into the political science honor society in March. The commencement ceremony was on May 19.

CLC Adult Ed Honors 2018 Graduates
Family, friends, and supporters of Central Lincoln County Adult Education students came together at Skidompha Library on Thursday, May 31 to recognize and honor this year’s graduates. The library’s Porter Meeting Hall was decorated with a banner and balloons in celebration of the graduates.

Althea Flogee, an eighth-grader at Great Salt Bay Community School in Damariscotta, was struck with the idea to start the Great Salt Bay Environmental Club after learning about the effects of climate change in Michael Stenstrom’s science classroom and watching the documentary “Before the Flood” with her mother.

Lincoln Academy Photo Contest Winners
The Lincoln Academy yearbook staff and the LA Photo Club combined forces to organize a spring photo contest for the LA community. Students and teachers submitted photos in six categories: Architecture, Nature, People, Campus, Student Life, and Sports. More than 160 photos were submitted, and each was judged anonymously by 19 students based on a 20-point rubric.

Any child having a fourth birthday on or before Oct. 15 is eligible to enter pre-K in the fall. Any child having a fifth birthday on or before Oct. 15 is eligible to enter kindergarten in the fall.

Scholarships Available to Maine Women Studying Science, Engineering
Applications are currently being accepted at the Maine Community Foundation for the Lydia R. Laurendeau Scholarship Fund. Established in 2013, the Lydia R. Laurendeau Fund provides scholarship support to women who are seniors graduating from high schools in Maine who are pursuing post-secondary education in either science or engineering at a four-year university. There is a preference for applicants demonstrating an interest and/or actively participating in their Franco-American heritage.
Kindergarten Registration at Nobleboro Central
Plans for the 2018-2019 kindergarten class have begun at Nobleboro Central School. In Maine, a child is eligible to be enrolled in public school in the town where the individual lives provided the child will have turned 5 years old by Oct. 15 of the coming school year.

Last weekend, 50 musicians in the Lincoln Academy Wind Ensemble and 5 O’Clock Jazz Combo traveled to New York City for LA’s biennial band trip to the WorldStrides Heritage Festival.
Emily Harris Elected LA Student Body President
Lincoln Academy recently elected junior Emily Harris, of Damariscotta, to serve as the 2018 president of the LA student body. Harris takes over the job from current president Tahlia Mullen, whose term ended last week.
