Wiscasset Eighth-Graders Participate in Girls’ Day at State House
Carolyn Potter and Madison Westrich, eighth-graders at Wiscasset Middle High School, joined 100 girls from across the state of Maine at the Maine State House recently for Girls’ Day, a dynamic and immersive day learning about how the state government works, the importance of women’s leadership, and how young women can have a voice on issues they care about.

Porter D. Leighton, 86, of Falmouth, passed away on the evening of April 11, 2019 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Born on Dec. 4, 1932 in Gardiner, he was a son of Linwood P. Leighton, Sr. and Marjorie (Daniels) Leighton.

Easter Egg Hunt in New Harbor
There will be an Easter egg hunt at the New Harbor fire station on Saturday, April 20 at 2 p.m. Kids ages 10 and under are invited. The egg hunt will be held rain or shine. Participants should bring their own baskets.

“Sister Act” is now a wonderful memory – and hopefully many of the songs continue to be hummed as people walk along. The theater is now back up and running with its wide variety of programming. This week, which includes, art, music, movies – including the second Harry Potter movie of our free eight-film series – is a good example of life at Lincoln Theater.

Who is a ‘True American?’
In last week’s Lincoln County News, Frank Slason had a letter to the editor supporting President Trump’s plan to “shut down the ports.” Toward the end of the piece, Slason referenced “true Americans.” To me, the question of how we define who is a true American is at the core of so much of the current vitriol, divisive rhetoric, and nationalistic fervor.
