Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Maine, FARMS Promote Healthy Eating
Nobleboro Central School fifth-grader Emily Tibbetts and her Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Maine “big sister,” Maya Bailey, a senior at Lincoln Academy, learned that good friends and good food go hand in hand. Since the fall of 2015, Emily and Maya have spent Monday afternoons together as part of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Maine after-school mentoring program. In December, they had a chance to learn side-by-side about preparing nutritious, locally grown foods.

Skidompha Chats Guest to Discuss Climate Change
On Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 10 a.m., in the Porter Meeting Hall at Skidompha Library in Damariscotta, Chats with Champions will present Andrew Stancioff, who will speak about the threat and consequences of climate change to world order. This is one of the talks being given to provide background on this year’s Camden Conference, “New World Disorder and America’s Future.” One should allow time for parking.

KELT Owl Prowl Coming Up Jan. 19
Kennebec Estuary Land Trust invites the public to explore the Carl and Barbara Segerstrom Preserve at Squam Creek on Westport Island for owls on Friday, Jan. 19 at 6 p.m. Led by Maine master naturalist Kit Pfeiffer, participants will walk the habitats of the preserve scouting for owls and exploring what makes these nocturnal birds so fascinating. This walk is appropriate for adults and children age 10 and older.

Mystery Writer to Speak at Library
Author Linda Greenlaw is coming to Waldoboro Public Library on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 1:30 p.m. to kick off the library’s speaker series of 2018. Greenlaw will discuss her newest mystery novel, “Shiver Hitch,” and her life as a lobster boat captain. She is the author of the bestsellers “The Hungry Ocean,” “All Fishermen are Liars,” “The Lobster Chronicles,” and “Recipes from a Small Island,” as well as the Jane Bunker mysteries, including “Slipknot” and “Fisherman’s Bend.”
