Monday is a special day for nearly all Americans. Seventy percent of Americans identify as Christians, but barely more than half of those attend church regularly. Even so, nearly all Americans celebrate Christmas by decorating their homes, shopping for and giving gifts, and gathering with family and friends.

Upward Bound Presentations at MVHS

The Upward Bound program is accepting applications from Medomak Valley High School. Information sessions about the free program and how to apply will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 20 at the high school. An assembly will take place at 12:20 p.m. for MVHS freshmen and sophomores.

Anthony J. Casella April 15, 1946 - Dec. 13, 2017

Anthony J. Casella, 71, of Nobleboro, passed away peacefully on the morning of Dec. 13 at the LincolnHealth – Miles Campus with his loving wife by his side. Born on April 15, 1946 in Boston, Mass., he was the son of Vincenzo and Marion Casella.

As most of us make our way gleefully through the Christmas season, as we shop and set up our trees and shop and string lights and shop and celebrate with family and friends and shop and watch our favorite Christmas movies, it is easy to forget about those perhaps somewhat less giddy about the season than ourselves.

Whitefield Elementary Winter Concert Postponed

Due to the recent snow day, the Whitefield Elementary School musicians missed an important rehearsal. The winter concert scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 13 will thus be postponed to Wednesday, Dec. 20.

Sally Halverson

Sally Halverson, 93, longtime resident of Newcastle, passed peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Dec. 9 of natural causes.

LA choirs shine: Kudos to Lincoln Academy Choir Director Beth Preston for a fabulous concert on Sunday, Dec. 10. Preston led the LA Concert Choir and the school’s Lincolnaires advanced vocal ensemble in the “Sounds of the Season” concert that took place at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Newcastle.
