Talking art at the grill: On Wednesday, Oct. 25, I caught the opening reception for the new art show up at Damariscotta River Grill, featuring the work of painters Susan Parrish Carter and Anne Cronin. Cronin is an accomplished watercolorist in her 80s, and Carter, who lives in Rockland, has a unique style that includes painting intricate landscapes on layers of glass.

Joseph Francis Cook, Sr., 69 of East Boothbay, passed away at his home in the early morning hours of Oct. 28 with his beloved family by his side.

Westford (Wes) Milton Hannan April 12, 1938 - Oct. 28, 2017
Westford (Wes) Milton Hannan, 79, of Greene, passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early morning hours of Oct. 28 at the Hospice House in Auburn, after a long courageous battle with chronic lung disease. Born on April 12, 1938, he was the son of Chester “Fes” and Alma Hannan.
Bourne-Monsees Wedding
Maegan Bourne and Tyler Monsees tied the knot on Oct. 20. The couple met on Long Island, N.Y., where they both are originally from, at their local Trader Joe’s. Since then they have traveled to various countries before deciding to make Maine their permanent home.
CLC Y Community Giving Tree Applications Available
The Central Lincoln County YMCA in Damariscotta is accepting applications for families in need of gifts this holiday season. Applications are now available and can be picked up at the CLC YMCA, local schools, churches, and town offices. The eighth annual Haiti Benefit Dinner will take place at St Patrick’s Catholic Church, at 380 Academy Hill Road in Newcastle, on Friday, Nov. 3 at 6 p.m.
‘Christmas Carol’ Auditions at River Company
The River Company announces auditions for its Christmas production, a staged reading of “A Christmas Carol.” Auditions will take place Friday, Nov. 3 from 3-5 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 4 from 10 a.m. to noon. Auditions will take place in the Porter Meeting Hall at Skidompha Library, 184 Main St., Damariscotta.

Newcastle History Early recollections of Thomas Gay
Recently, the Newcastle Historical Society museum was given a notebook of articles and stories written by Thomas Gay (1902-1984). Gay lived his entire life in Newcastle and ran a grocery store near the bridge. In 1926, he married Iome Irvine (1902–1990) An article, dated 1979, tells about the area, its shops, stores, and people, as Gay remembered them. I have not changed the wording nor the punctuation in any way.
