Participants Sought for Pumpkinfest Parade

Fall is right around the corner, and with it comes Damariscotta Pumpkinfest & Regatta. Participants are currently being sought for the Giant Pumpkin Parade, a hallmark event of the annual celebration, which will be held Saturday, Oct. 12.

Fill the Y Bus Food Drive is Sept. 24

at

On Tuesday, Sept. 24 from 1-6 p.m., the Central Lincoln County YMCA, Main Street Grocery, and the Damariscotta Police Department are partnering to host another Fill the Y Bus food drive. These food drives typically fill over 35 boxes and bags with donations to benefit the Jefferson Food Pantry, Ecumenical Food Pantry, Lincoln Academy Cubbies, and local schools’ backpack programs to help serve members in the community in need of nourishment.

Caring for Kids Opens Food Pantry in Bristol Mills

Caring for Kids, a 501(c)(3) serving the children of Bristol and South Bristol, is happy to announce that its public food pantry is open and ready for visitors! The pantry is located between the Bristol Mills fire station and the Masonic Hall, in a well-lighted area.

Volunteers Needed for Oktoberfest Waldoboro

Oktoberfest Waldoboro, which will take place on Saturday, Oct. 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Cider Hill Farm, 72 Medomak Terrace, Waldoboro, will offer many activities and games for both children and adults, but volunteers are needed to make it happen.

Charlotte Ramsdell Takes First at Windsor Fair Rabbit Show

On Aug. 30, with grace, skill, and talent, 7-year-old Charlotte Ramsdell, of the Bristol village of New Harbor, took first place in junior showmanship, first place buck, and first place in the fiber division for her English Angora rabbit named Cinna Bun Buns.

Course on Managing Stress Through Mindfulness

LincolnHealth’s Coulombe Center for Health Improvement will once again offer a nine-week mindfulness-based stress reduction class at Schooner Cove, on the LincolnHealth — Miles Campus in Damariscotta.

Smerdon Family Benefit

The Huntoon Hill Grange Hall in Wiscasset will be the host for a benefit bingo on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 1:30 p.m. The bingo will benefit the Smerdon family from Bristol that lost their home due to a fire the early morning of July 5.

Free Presentation on Invasive Forest Pests

Invasive forest pests like the emerald ash borer and the hemlock woolly adelgid are already having devastating impacts on Maine’s forests; the browntail moth is affecting human health as well as tree health; the Asian long-horned beetle, with a large host range, could be the next invader on the horizon.

Darling Marine Center, Bigelow Laboratory Co-Lead Major New Project

The University of Maine and Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences are co-leading a five-year initiative that aims to revolutionize environmental monitoring, ecological understanding, and sustainability of coastal ecosystems. A $20 million grant from the National Science Foundation will fund the project, which involves collaborators in research, education, government, community, and economic development, and marine-related businesses statewide.
