Here are the quiet months. Ice cream shops are closed. First Fridays and Final Thursdays are over.
What’s At The Waldo?
There is something truly inspirational about singing in harmony with a group of people, which may explain why it has lengthy historical and broad cultural roots as well. Some of my favorite high school memories come from singing in the chorus. I’ve got friends who’ve had similar experiences singing at church.
THE WAY LIFE SHOULD BE
Having followed the long-running conflict between Jeff Spinney and the town of Alna over Spinney’s boat ramp, it was interesting to see the conflict come to some sort of resolution last week when the parties agreed to a settlement following a public hearing on the issue.
Characters of the County: The Remarkable Friendship of Holly Zeller
The forces of nature around Lincoln County include snowstorms, Damariscotta’s Pumpkinfest and Regatta, and at one point, glaciers. That list wouldn’t be complete, however, without the addition of Holly Zeller, a medaling extreme sports enthusiast, creator of an informal fashion contest, and Linaca Music Festival Host, with a fearless knack for making friends.
Whitefield
Saturday was a busy day in Whitefield. The library had its annual fall festival. Seeing kids painting pumpkins, their faces, and their nails added such a wonderful element. Besides the many scrumptious looking baked items, the vegetarian chili was the best I’ve ever had and my husband said the meat chili was just as delicious. Music by Rusty Hinges was, as always, toe tapping fun. A new QR code payment method was unveiled and worked like a charm.
Skidompha Skoop
I wanted to call your attention to skidompha.org, our new website we softly launched. Thank you to our own Meghan Hawkes for taking on this laborious project, and for all of her hard work making this renovation possible. I love the clean format and color palette.
Round Pond
The Eveready Bunny, aka Kendrick Wilson, moved back to his home this past Monday after an eight-month long stay with Lara Decker. Lara and her son, Jack, dedicated themselves to providing him with a home full of laugher, delicious meals, and lots of care and love. There were also other friends that pitched in along the way. Lara, Tom Cusick and Judi Olson will continue to help him out at home along with Comfort Keepers.
Paws for Thought
Since October is National Animal Safety and Protection Month, this would be the perfect time to go over the safety plan in your home when it comes to your pets. It is a regrettable reality that something could go wrong at any time and your pet could be left without your care for an extended period. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to ensure that your pet’s discomfort is mitigated or even eliminated during this time.
Waldoboro Voices 'I am Always Impressed With the Dignity of Governing'
Bill Blodgett will tell you it doesn’t matter what hat he’s wearing. He’s the same person, whether it’s as county commissioner, high school teacher, representative in the Maine Legislature, or town select board member. At age 87, he’s lived a long life that also includes military service in the Army and raising two sons and two daughters with his wife, Carol, who never gossiped and was kind to everyone.

As the number of bylines in the newspaper has practically doubled in recent months, it felt like a good time to introduce you all to our new writers.

STAND TO ANSWER
We don’t know what happened to Makinzlee Handrahan. We weren’t there. The sum total of what we know, for a fact, on the record, we have reported.

News Along the Way Conversations and Perspectives
What led me to Inn Along the Way was an article in this paper in late August 2021. I was intrigued by an event called Conversation Circles. The topic was cross cultural and religious perspectives on aging and death. I decided to follow my curiosity and go to the event.
