On Thursday, Dec. 18, Jean (Reed) Adkins and Kevin Adkins, of Damariscotta, got married in their winter wonderland basement at their home. Their daughters, Abby Reed and Shannon Adkins stood with them, and Jean’s future son-in-law Christian Nielsen performed his first marriage ceremony!

‘A Smile From Heaven’
It was Christmas Eve, a night of wonder, of mystery, of longing for the next day to come. The morning would bring hot chocolate, sitting by the fireplace in what we called the back living room. Everyone, including Mom and Dad, would be in their pajamas, bathrobes, and slippers. Getting dressed would come later, in time for Granny’s punctual visit at 10 a.m.
Bessie M. (Schwarz) Lund July 12, 1930 – Nov. 30, 2025
Bessie M. (Schwarz) Lund was born at the Queens Hospital in Portland on July 12, 1930, the youngest child and only daughter of W. Frederick Schwarz and Mae E. (Mitchell) Schwarz. She grew up on Chamberlain Avenue with her parents, two older brothers, Robert and Richard, grandfather “gramps,” David Schwarz, and housekeeper, Miss Annie Noyes, who lived with them and was thought of as family. Bess attended Nathan Clifford School, Lincoln Junior High School, Deering High School class of 1948, and Northeastern Business College. She employed her secretarial skills, including typing and shorthand, in a variety of jobs in Portland, including at the courthouse, the gas company, and the bus company in the Maine Central Railroad office building.

Charles “Chuck” Jewitt, 74, passed away peacefully on the morning of Dec. 20, 2025.
Chad Wyman Feb. 8, 1972 - Dec. 21, 2025
Chad Wyman, 53, of Lewiston, passed away while at The Hospice House in Auburn on Dec. 21, 2025. Born on Feb. 8, 1972 in Damariscotta, he was the son of Ralph L. Wyman (now deceased) and Diane C. (Warren) Wyman. Chad grew up in Damariscotta, attending Great Salt Bay Community School. For high school, he commuted to Boothbay Region High School to play football. After high school he attended Plymouth State College with teaching as a goal. Health issues got in the way, and he was unable to reach this goal.
Jeffrey Odlin Cook
Jeffrey Odlin Cook, of Jefferson, passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 14, 2025. Cook was born to Carleton and Winona (Odlin) Cook, of Fairfield, where he attended Lawrence High School. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in botany from the University of Maine at Orono and a master’s in environmental management from Duke University.

On Sunday, Dec. 14, Scout Troop 213 of Damariscotta successfully completed a 5-mile hike from Dodge Point Preserve in Damariscotta to McKay Road in Edgecomb.
