Good music, good food, and good company: These three things are true about me: I love music, I love Vietnamese food, and I love meeting new and interesting people (especially over lunch).
A FEW THOUGHTS
A few thoughts on important local issues of the week:
Skidompha Skoop
It’s back to the classroom this week! We hosted a number of programs for our school-age patrons last week, our toddler and baby book groups were bustling, we had young journalists writing newsworthy articles, and we had a teen creative-writing workshop!

The accompanying photograph is of Mertland Steer and Jane Foster. Mertland was Bert Steer’s son and Bethiah’s brother. Jane was Lelia Atkinson’s stepdaughter.

Creativity from coast to coast to coast: Last month, when I went to view the Great Salt Bay Community School art show in the cafe at Rising Tide Co-op in Damariscotta (see “Lincoln County Artsbeat,” Jan. 12), I ran into an abstract painter named Jaap Eduard Helder.
Food, Life, and Manhattans Lemon sponge pie is totally ridiculous
Lemon sponge pie is sublime. I really think that’s the best word to describe it. It’s delicious, it’s beautiful, it’s rich and creamy, it’s spongy, it’s light and fluffy. But mostly it’s just plain sublime.

Paws for Thought
I have always known I was an animal lover. As a child, nothing elicited more excitement than knowing it was time for the newest issue of Cat Fancy magazine to arrive. Looking at the pictures of all the beautiful cats and kittens, I believed that as an adult I would own 100 Egyptian Maus.
Food, Life, and Manhattans Scallops – from the sea to the table in no time flat
Once a year, sometime in January, my aunt Ida emails to ask if I’d like to place an order for scallops. I mentioned no-brainers twice in last week’s column about chocolate cake with bourbon in it. This is another one.

Healing art: Many locals know Newcastle musician and empathic healer Emily Sabino for the free Sonic Uplift healing events she offers and for her membership in the musical duo The Flying Seeds, along with her husband, Lenin Sabino.
JUST SAVING LIVES, NO BIG DEAL
Back in 2013, we published a front-page article about a Damariscotta man’s near-death experience – he had a heart problem while playing tennis – and how a crew from the Central Lincoln County Ambulance Service saved his life.
Food, Life, and Manhattans Dark chocolate bourbon cake. Hello.
It’s no secret that I love chocolate cake. I also love whiskey, as evidenced by my love of Manhattans.

Celebrating the human form: The third annual “What’s Nude in Boothbay Harbor?” art show will open on Valentine’s Day, Thursday, Feb. 14 at the Boothbay Region Art Foundation in Boothbay Harbor.
