As people were want to do back in the day, Fran and Bill Russell loaded B.J. and Jill into their ’55 Oldsmobile to go for a Sunday “ride” in the early spring of 1965. They lived in North Newcastle at the time and their meanderings that day brought them through Round Pond. As they drove by the old King Ro Manor, Fran always told me that her heart stuttered and she knew that that was their future.
A GOOD JOB NEED NOT GO UNNOTICED
The functions of our community that seem most basic are, often, the ones it’s easiest to take for granted. When we call 911, is there someone on the other end of the line? When we toss a can into the recycling bin, is it really being reused? When a stray animal appears on a doorstep or in a garage, is there somebody a phone call away to bring the scared creature to a safe place?

ONWARD
With 2025 here, we join the rest of Lincoln County in taking a moment to reflect on the past year and set intentions for the new one. While we do so, we’d like to acknowledge that this communal act is one that doesn’t have to be confined to the turn of a new year.

Damariscotta History Christmas Blessings to All
Once again I have the privilege and honor to welcome all my family, friends, and neighbors to share the true meaning of the Christmas season and the special day of Christmas. This past week I had the privilege to watch and see the great cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris, France being rebuilt from destruction of fire to a complete and beautiful cathedral once again.
A SYMBOL OF LOVE
It’s that time of year again. The holiday lights are shining, the snow is falling, and the community is bundled together, trying to keep warm through another Maine winter. Soon, we’ll be saying goodbye to 2024 and ringing in the possibilities 2025 will bring.
What Christmas Means To Me
When I was a kid, Christmas was all about the gifts. Oh sure, I loved the sights, sounds, and sweet aromas that separated Christmas from all the other holidays, but it was still all about the gifts. At first it was all about the gifts I would receive. That eventually changed as I learned about giving gifts.

Tails & Tales
“Alright, I’ll be there then,” I heard Harry the llama saying.
Thrifty Good Food Savory Scallops
Scallops, unlike other bivalves like clams and oysters, are harvested in winter months. So, from early December to March, we may expect those delicious plump bites of seafood to appear in stores and on our dinner plates. Scallops may be considered a luxury food because of their price is driven by methods of harvesting, often by hand, and each bivalve yields only a small edible muscle.
