This October, fifth and sixth graders from Great Salt Bay Community School participated in field trips to Twin Villages Foodbank Farm, where they harvested fresh food, rain or shine, and cooked with FARMS at the Y.

William Carlton Hammer Oct. 8, 1937 - Oct. 12, 2023
William Hammer died Oct. 12, 2023 at his home in Nobleboro, after several falls that contributed to rapid decline. Bill was born in Scandia, Kan. on Oct. 8, 1937, and his lifelong frugal demeanor was a result of the Great Depression’s impact on Midwest farming families during the ‘30s and ‘40s. He learned not to ask for much and this quality persisted until his death.
Betsy Hurst Piper May 21, 1954 - Oct. 25, 2023
Betsy Hurst Piper left us too early on Oct. 25, 2023 at her winter home in Spring Hill, Fla. John Cotter, her husband of nine years, and Rascal, a rescued Boston terrier mix, never left her side. Betsy had been courageously battling throat cancer since last year, before coming down with pneumonia and COVID.

Ann Mary Chiarchiaro, a beloved snowbird hailing from Nobleboro and Fort Myers, died peacefully on Oct. 21, 2023 following a prolonged illness. Her grace and dignity remained with her throughout her final days on this earth.
