Japanese Koto Concert April 12
The Second Congregational Church of Newcastle proudly continues its highly popular community concert series, Second Sundays, at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, featuring Second Congregational Church Music Director Sarah Oeste, who will present an immersive program featuring the Japanese koto.

Jean Turco A Life Filled With Love
Jean Turco, aged 91, died following a long illness in her beloved home state of Maine on March 23, 2026. Born in Meriden, Conn. to parents John and Bertha Houdlette, she graduated from the University of Connecticut with a bachelor’s in English before marrying Lewis, her high school sweetheart. Her greatest wish growing up was to become a mother, which she accomplished, becoming the warmest, kindest, most nurturing mom that her children and grandchildren could ever hope for.

JoAnn Tribby, of Jefferson, died on Monday, April 6, 2026 from pancreatic cancer. She and her family are grateful for the outstanding care she received from Dr. Benton and all the staff at New England Cancer Center in Topsham, Dr. Anne Jacobs, of Newcastle, and Val Despres, RN, of MaineHealth Hospice.

LeRoy W. “Junior” Genthner, 72, died April 3, 2026 at MaineHealth Lincoln Hospital – Miles Campus in Damariscotta. Junior was born July 30, 1953 in Waldoboro to LeRoy W. Genthner and Phyllis M. Benner Genthner. Junior attended local schools and graduated from Medomak Valley High School in the class of 1971. During high school Junior enjoyed playing baseball. Junior worked at Spear’s Farm in Nobleboro during and after high school.
