Thistles & Things Grant Supports After-School Program That Builds Skills Through Experiential Education

While our Nobleboro and Jefferson campuses are quieter during the winter months as educators from The Leadership School serve in residence at local schools, they are still an ideal setting for hands-on learning experiences in and around nature. Thanks to a three-year Innovation Grant from the Maine Department of Education, we create just that through after-school programs for sixth graders from Warren Community School in Warren and Miller School in Waldoboro.

The Community Housing Improvement Project connects people in the local community who cannot afford a delivery of firewood with a robust group of local volunteers who cut, split, and deliver dry wood. CHIP volunteers have already delivered wood to 11 different households this season.

After a valiant 11-year battle with brain cancer, on the evening of Dec. 22, 2022 at 5:08 p.m., Jameson Walker Brooks gained his angel wings and flew to heaven. Jameson passed away, surrounded by love and care, in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Barbara Bush Hospital.

Mary “Bushy” Bushnell Pearce Henry, 102, of Tuckerman Ave., Middletown, R.I. and South Bristol, passed away on Dec. 24, 2022, in the St. Clare Home in Newport, R.I. She was the wife of the late Eugene Baker Henry, USN, Ret.
