Any questions about whether Lincoln Academy would bounce back this season after several seniors graduated – including 1,000 point scorer Gabe Hagar – were answered in a 52-44 win over Mt. Ararat that opened the preseason schedule on Monday, Nov. 25 in Topsham. The Eagles featured a quick, feisty defense that smothered and exhausted Mt. Ararat, especially in the second half while a variety of Lincoln Academy athletes aggressively attacked the basket to draw fouls. The Eagles outscored Mt. Ararat 18-7 in the fourth quarter to rally for the win.

Aidyn Herring and Chase Coffin led the Eagles with nine points apiece. Also scoring for Lincoln Academy were Terry Welle with eight points, Drew Hunt seven, Otto Schoenthal six, A.J. Giberson five, E.J. Hunt and Chase Ober three each, and Tyson Ball with two.

The Maine high school basketball season officially began on Monday, November 18.  The LCN visited programs around the county and share photos from the action.

The Medomak Valley football team succumbed to the strong defense and robust running game of the Hermon Hawks in a 24-14 loss in the Class C North regional championship on Saturday, Nov. 16 in Hampden. Gabe Lash had a stellar game for the Panthers after he switched to the quarterback position in the second half and sparked a comeback rally that ended up just a little bit short.

The Medomak Valley football team dominated Nokomis during a 36-6 rout in a Class C North semifinal match on Saturday, Nov. 9 in Waldoboro. The number two seed Panthers played better offense, defense and special teams than the three seed Warriors and also benefitted from Nokomis turnovers while earning a trip to the regional championship game for the third year in a row. Medomak Valley’s offensive line led the way against Nokomis by consistently clearing space for the Panthers running backs including Jaydiin Ruiz who ran for 200 yards and four touchdowns.

Medomak Valley will seek to avenge a regular season loss to the Hermon Hawks when they square off for the Class C North title on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 2:30 P.M. at Hampden Academy in Hampden. Number one seed Hermon defeated the Panthers 14-8 during the opening week of the season.

The Medomak Valley girls soccer team lost to Hermon 5-1 in the Class B North regional championship game on Wednesday, Nov. 6 in Hampden.  It was the first time that a Medomak Valley girls team had ever made it to a regional final. The match started off well for the Panthers as it was tied 0-0 at halftime on an unseasonably warm fall evening, but Hermon scored in the first 30 seconds of the second half and rolled past the Panthers from there.  Scarlett Flint scored the only goal of the game for Medomak Valley on a nice pass from Haylee Chandler to make the score 3-1 with ten minutes remaining.  Panthers goalie Chloe Fox made nineteen saves in the game.

The Medomak Valley boys soccer team defeated Caribou 1-0 in a Class B North semifinal game on Saturday, Nov. 2. The second seed Panthers advanced to the Class B North regional championship against top seed John Bapst on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at Hampden Academy at 4 P.M.

The number one seed Medomak Valley girls soccer team sent John Bapst packing on Saturday, Nov. 2 with a 2-1 victory in a Class B North semifinal match-up. Medomak will play for the Class B North regional title against second seed Hermon on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at Hampden Academy at 6:30 P.M.

The Lincoln Academy boys soccer team almost erased a three goal deficit in the second half before falling to Cape Elizabeth 4-3 in a Class B South quarterfinal match on Wednesday, Oct 30 in Cape Elizabeth. After trailing 4-1 early in the second half, the Eagles rallied with goals by Peter Thelander and Till Glaser to narrow the margin to 4-3 with nine minutes remaining.  The Eagles battled hard all the way to the final buzzer but could not get the equalizer.

Former Lincoln Academy girls soccer star Tatum Hancock did not plan to be a high school soccer coach, but is grateful that it came about.

The Medomak Valley boys soccer team defeated Oceanside 6-2 in a North Class B quarterfinal game on Wednesday, Oct. 30 in Waldoboro. The Panthers jumped out to a 3-0 lead on goals from Mo Ngido, Luke Cheesman and Nevan Power (back pass from Vishal Mellor). The Mariners scored one goal before the half, then added a second less than ten minutes into the second frame to pull within one. Medomak Valley responded to the threat with three unanswered goals from Ngido, Mellor and Juan Carlson (on a through pass from Noah Swartz).

Scarlett Flint scored two goals to lead the Panthers to a 3-0 Class B North quarterfinal playoff win over Gardiner on Tuesday, Oct. 29 in Waldoboro.  Summer Staples scored the third Medomak Valley goal, and Kytana Williamson had an assist on Flint’s first breakaway tally. Panthers goalie Chloe Fox made nine saves in net to earn the shutout victory.
