There are several places to go mountain biking in Lincoln County. The best two choices are the Schmid Preserve in Edgecomb and Hidden Valley Nature Center in Jefferson. In addition, Oxbow Brewing Co. in Newcastle offers a 1.5-mile blue-blazed mountain bike trail on hilly terrain.

D.J. Thompson, of Jefferson, was turning 13 on Friday, April 24, and his mother, Laura, wanted to do something special to help him celebrate in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak. Legendary Boothbay Region boys basketball coach I.J. Pinkham is hanging up his varsity coaching hat after 49 years. “I am not applying for the coaching job next year. I am done with varsity,” Pinkham said. While retiring as varsity coach, Pinkham is not stepping away from the game he loves. “I might volunteer,” he said.

Dec. 21, 2017 is a day that stands out in Medomak Valley sophomore point guard Patrick McKenney’s memory. It was a day when the seemingly healthy 13-year-old Great Salt Bay Community School eighth grader was brought face to the face with the reality that he might never be able to play basketball, the game he loves, again.

Lincoln Academy’s coed Unified basketball team hosted Medomak Valley for LA’s second home game of the season on Monday, Feb. 24. The atmosphere was light and the crowd enthusiastic to celebrate the Eagle athletes in their first season. Medomak Valley is in its second year with the Unified program and Maine in its sixth.
