As much as we try to deny the reality, winter weather is upon us and with it comes some adjustments that must be made. The Whitefield Elementary School Transportation Captains (bus drivers) have asked me to remind families of the expectation to have students out to their bus pickup point at least 10 minutes before the usual pickup time and have students aware that winter driving conditions may, at times, force buses to be slower than typical. Everyone should simply be patient in waiting for the bus to arrive and, of course, stay a safe distance from the road itself.

Lincoln County saw few new COVID-19 cases over much of the past week, then added five on Monday, Dec. 14 and 14 on Tuesday, Dec. 15. Tuesday’s was the highest single-day increase for the county since the pandemic began.

The Oshima Brothers “grew up at the end of a very long dirt road in Whitefield in a house with many, many instruments and not so many neighbors. Childhood was running around in the woods and getting lost in music,” Sean Oshima said. Younger brother Jamie “started banging on a full drum kit at the age of 4 — every parent’s nightmare,” before picking up guitar when he was 7 or 8. “Music never felt forced,” Sean said, “it was always happy.”

Wiscasset Names Athletic Field in Honor of Retiring Custodian
The Wiscasset School Committee voted, during a Zoom meeting Tuesday, Dec. 8, to name the upper field at Wiscasset Middle High School after Jeffrey Speed, who will retire in February 2021 after 46 years of service to Wiscasset schools.
