Wiscasset Town Planner Jamel Torres’ resignation was announced at the Wiscasset Board of Selectmen’s Tuesday, Dec. 1 meeting, and selectmen accepted the resignation with deep regret. Torres’ last day at the Wiscasset town office will be Dec. 15, according to his letter of resignation.

High Stakes for Annual Legislative Tour of Jail
An annual tour of Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset for local legislators will have special meaning this year and, for the first time in the history of the tour, the public is invited to attend. Scheduled for Friday, Dec. 11, the tour has previously focused on the budget crunch created by the lack of promised state funding for flagship jails, or jails that house out-of-county inmates, through the now-defunct Maine Board of Corrections.

RSU 12 Pre-Kindergarten Grant in Jeopardy
A federal preschool expansion grant awarded to RSU 12 in December 2014 for a five-year period has been eliminated from the preliminary federal budget for fiscal year 2016 to 2017. The grant funds are guaranteed for a second year, RSU 12 Superintendent Howard Tuttle said. After that, the availability of those funds is uncertain.
